Post subject:  HELPPPPPPP LOW FPS 15-8 Desktop computer FFXI is unplayable
Dell OptiPlex, Intel Core 2 Duo 2.9GHz E7500 Processor, 4GB Memory, 160GB Hard Drive, DVD, Windows 10 just bought off amazon. Is this computer not fast enough to run FFXI? Graphics card not good enough? Please help as I cannot play this game at 10 FPS... PS I know nothing about computers Please help, thanks!

old core 2 duo with no dedicated graphics card? you'll have issues.

try editing the "background size" in the launcher. cut it in half. turn shadows off ingame.

Try turning off weather effects as well.

Also good to note that system requirements for FFXI have changed over time, most recently in 2016. A computer build you might remember running FFXI just fine in the past, will not do so now.
