How did you come up with your in-game name?

Post subject:  How did you come up with your in-game name?
I see a lot of unique names these days, and I'm curious: What made you decide on that specific name? :o

I'll start -

When I first started playing FFXI in 2003, I was in the middle of re-reading the Lord Of the Rings trilogy, and was part of the way through The Two Towers. The character Eowyn's name is the basis for "Llowyn". ^^

I started FFXI on PS2 a long, long time ago. The name I wanted was taken, so I instead pushed triangle a bunch of times until Namingway gave me something to work with, from which I modified to land on Vavaud. I can't recall what the original suggestion was, though. Probably something like Valaud or something where I just changed a single character.

I had already play as a Hume very briefly a few years before I went back to FFXI for the second time, and wanted a taru name, so I sat around and tried to brainstorm a rhyming name in accordance to male taru names and there it was!

I had a bottle of mountain dew sitting on my desk, and i didn't want to do something ghetto like Mountaindew, but Pepsi makes mt dew, so I went with it.

I was partying with friends from retail irl and they showed me nasomi so I was like damn let me advertise my Facebook page and relive the good ol days camping LL, I thoight it was just gonna be a 1 night nostalgia fest but I became hooked so I changed my name to be more subtle and since im taru I wanted a Japanese style name so I wrote out Troll in katakana to ro ru

People are always making jokes to me like "are you here to leak info about FFXI?"

Actually, my name comes from the book Catch 22 by Joseph Heller. The character for which I am named is involved in a scene that had a big impact on me.

When I was born the skies glowed red above sacred Mount Paektu and the impenetrable sheet of ice at the heart of the mystical volcano cracked with a deafening roar. The heavens opened up and infomed the great Kim il Sung what my name was to be.

When I started playing RPGs/zelda/etc videogames to progress my study of Japanese, I would always name my main character Roki in katakana. The funny thing is that I would always name my male characters Roki and female characters Mayura (in hiragana), after the characters in the manga Matantei Roki. (Mythical Detective Loki) but I play a mithra which is a female character.
