I once had a brother Theodore ("Teddy" for short)... we were sons of a circus clown. We joined the police force together then and started our own private investigation service. We quickly established a reputation for helping people in trouble, such as solving the kidnapping of a nephew and clearing someone of espionage charges.

While we were investigating a robbery, an unknown assailant dropped a piano on us. I survived with a broken arm, but Teddy was killed. The incident soured me... my business suffered greatly, and I became an alcoholic...

I began living in the office Teddy and I had shared and left Teddy's desk as a memorial to him, refusing to dust it or let anyone sit in its chair...

I discovered later that a Toon had killed my brother...

I've always hated "toons", "DPS jobs", and "RNG" (as in random number generator). To my its my Char, it's melee job, and that is most definitely a Ranger, not a random number.

I heard someone use the term the other day in a shout in Valkurm.

Not that I care too much, but I think it speaks against the person as to "where they come from", and in turn, how they might treat fellow players.

Pretty standard in Lineage2, or used to be at least

"Toons" didn't seem like a term commonly used in FFXI from my experience until WoW became a thing. And since WoW is the natural enemy of FFXI, I hated the term along with the game that supposedly bore it.

Now, I have no clue where the term actually started, but that was my personal perception with the limited online gaming I did at the time.

Boom. 100% correct.

My first MMO and first love was FFXI, but friends eventually dragged me kicking and screaming to WoW. It's not hard to understand how the term developed, if one has played WoW... it literally is cartoonish in appearance.

Let's not forget people who say "guild" instead of "linkshell".
