Ever since playing Path of Exile I have become obsessed with permanent death games. I found that no other experience in gaming can compare to narrowly escaping a permanent character death. When everything you've worked for is on the line it just feels more real. I yearn for such a game in the MMO genre and I think FFXI would be a great platform for it.

Questions for discussion:

1. Would you play on such a server?
2. Do you think anyone would make it to the level cap?
3. How far do you think people could make it?
4. What would be different about the economy and AH prices?
5. How would player behavior change?

Let me know what you think, I'm interested.

We're already playing that game IRL. And so we've resorted to virtual worlds to act out our sense of adventure; our fear of the real world ramifications like losing a fight to a bear or being rear ended by a 1998 white Mitsubishi. Would still be a fun social experiment, though!

I don't think it would work for this game. You have to depend on other people too much.

I think it could work. Nasomi forums logged me out and ate my post, so let me condense some stuff;

- People would still craft, things would probably be priced fairly normally
- Safer strats would be used over speedier, riskier things (however if players had mastered riskier strats they'd still use them)
- Trading gear to another player to preserve it just before death
- Some fights being sacrificial lamb type fights due to instant death attacks would make the loot from these rarer
- How would reraise be handled? Just die anyway? Or would that be allowed? Poor whm. lol

I think items would remain on a player's corpse, kind of like in a bazaar but free to buy from anyone who came by. Someone they trust could retrieve their items, or they could be stolen by someone. Their corpse and items would disappear after a certain amount of time. During that time they could be raised. I think reraise would have to be removed because otherwise it would be much the same game but with the addition of obsessing over having reraise up constantly. That being said there could be some restriction about it so that wouldn't be the case.

To make it a little more forgiving your items in MH could persist after death. On the other hand, all items being lost on death might be more in the spirit of the idea.

Let’s take it further: you’re banned if you die.

Pug tanks wouldn't exist, it'd be statics only I imagine, good healers would be priceless, PL would take years to level probably. I would imagine it'd end up like diablo 2 hardcore where you'd basically have people solo or duo grinding low easy prey for days to get their levels.
