Post subject:  very new to FFXI
Character Name: Dubadan
Played FFXI? yes, but very little. all of my experience was from when I was about 6 or 7 (2003 - 2004 iirc) and I never was able to get anywhere past the level 18 sub job quest
Came from:
Years Played: N/A?
How you found us? Ive heard of the few private servers over the years but never looked further into them until now.
Other MMO's? I have played my fair share of XIV, albeit I never took part in the end game content; it didnt look as interesting as XI when i watched my dad play Sky and other areas
Anything else? I would like to say I am a quick learner, but having no real knowledge of XI I am expecting a rather difficult time, but its what i signed up for. Any help, or even tips would be greatly appreciated

Thank you very much! I'll certainly keep an eye out for you IG and ask what I need too (I also see that you've completed my most sought after fight, AV :) )

before i get too lost in trying to figure out what to do past level 10 ( I hear that PL in the dunes isn't something that typically happens on Nasomi, but i could be wrong) what should I end up doing to hit 18 before my sub quest and what should I do after? haha

well powerleveling in the dunes happens because the PL doesnt need to be high level so any mage even lv 30 could pl there that makes it more common

Make sure to keep a signet on by talking to the gate guards in your city. This will allow you to collect crystals from mobs you defeat which you can sell on the auction house for starting gil. It will also award conquest points which you can use to buy some helpful gear from the guards. The guards offer supplies quests as well which unlock the ability to warp to outposts across Vana'diel. Once you get your subjob unlocked I would focus on unlocking all the teleport crystals - Holla, Mea, Dem at least and doing your supply runs each week so you can get around better. You can also start doing missions to unlock higher ranks within your city which unlocks new conquest point items. At level 20 its time to make the run to Jeuno and do the quest to unlock your chocobo license. Beyond that its up to you which jobs you want to unlock and level.

thank you for this advice! I've done some digging on the forums to see what I need to care about early on, so I've spent time farming fire crystals and wild onions primarily (I try to get silk too on my way to the mines). One question I have though; are the dunes still viable from 10-18? or will there be another method I'll have to take?

Yeah people party in the dunes, but the parties start at level 12 on this server.
