Post subject: | Brand new to FFXI |
Hi all! I just downloaded the game and made a Hume White Mage, but I am so confused haha. I've never played FFXI before but I'm curious and I've seen for a long time how fondly people remember this game. I read the intro guide here on the Nasomi site and it was helpful but can anyone point me in the direction of a good in depth guide for new players? I found one npc to give me a mission in Bastok but I couldn't find the mining foreman. Any help would be greatly appreciated as the challenge of learning this game seems really exciting right now ![]() |

I would start by reading this, and there are more guides to help you over on the wiki as well. http://nasomi.com/wiki/doku.php?id=new:first-time |

Thank you, that's the guide I did read, but I'll dig deeper in the wiki. I guess what's confusing to me is how to work with the clunky ui and how to find missions or quests that are good for a lvl 1 character. |

FFXI is different in that you don't do quest/missions for lvling progress. Missions you do for story and endgame zone access, quests you only do if the reward is good. It's a shame, but reward:time ratio on quest is pretty abysmal. The best place to go to find information is an ffxi wiki, or ask in the server wide linkshell. |

Welcome to FFXI, and Nasomi. Most people have already hit the key points for being successful in this game. Research, and friends. #1 - Use ffxiclopedia. While some steps differ, or don't work on Nas the vast majority is close enough to help you find the quests to do, and how to do them. #2 - Join a Link Shell. Shout in Bastok and join one. MogHouse is server wide, but there are great smaller shells with helpful people. #3 - Have fun. FFXI is a game full of frustrations, but those frustrations make you stronger, and build bonds between friends. If you are getting frustrated though take a break. There are lots of things to do. Enjoy it, and don't try to rush too much. My first play though took years to unlock all the content. It's not just about end game; it's about the adventure. |

1) Auto sort your inventory 2) Save your beastman seals 3) If you're fighting a wyrm, stand on it's paws. |
