Not to be a jerk or anything but farming is a part of ffxi. Crafter's try to recoup as much as possible off synths that lose money. The cost to make an iridal is like ten times more than what it sells for. I know pretty much every NQ synth sells at a loss these days but...it's not that hard to go out and farm an extra 80k.../wishfulthinking |

I just did a lil auction house searching and a little math. it in fact doesnt cost 10x more for the staves to make an iridal. not counting buying ores/beads and other materials, u could buy all the ele staves off the AH for 248k. also not sure if u knew but u cant HQ an iridal. iridals are only made from NQ ele staves. Chatoyant can only be made from HQ ele staves. |

No one buys the NQ staves on the market to make an Iridal, they're attempting to make HQ staves and then turning the NQs they do get into iridal, because the NQ of the staves sell like dirt when an Iridal is that cheap already. To buy a full set of ores (not counting anything else) its 950,000... So it's not a long shot off of the 10x that he threw out. The Iridal is the NQ synth of trying to make HQ staves for crafters, and that's the loss that he was referring to. In the time it's taken for these posts to be made though, he could've just farmed another 80k and bought an iridal at what already represents a massive loss for a crafter. |

Chatoyant can only be made from HQ ele staves. The guy you are explaining this too probably knows a lot more about it than you do. No one sets out to make an Iridal Staff. The sunk cost comes from the fact that they are synthing from the ore stage trying to make HQ Staves in order to make Chat Staves. They make Iridal Staves from their misses on the original HQ attempts. I can't speak for the exact gil conversion but you "not counting ores and beads" means you are discounting how 99% of Iridal staffs come to exist. Iridals all balls cheap. If OP wants it cheaper he can buy all the NQ's and hire a crafter to make it for cheaper so HE (OP) assumes the risk of the breakage. Edit: Starbright beat me too it, but yeah. |
