Can I catch quus/bastore sardine in Port Windy with a clothespole and lugworms? I'm level 7.6

Not sure if I'm using the wrong setup, or if it's just bad luck.

I mean, OP's guide says you should use Composite Rod + Sabiki Rig for that, so anything other than that has no guarantees. If you aren't seeing any fish with the setup you're using, it's probably just no good for what you're trying to do.

In case anyone else tries it - it's the clothespole. It's too "strong" for the smaller fish, need to have composite or halcyon. Lugworms work just fine if you don't want to worry about accidentally losing a rig (or have the $ to buy it).

Fishing is mostly for beginners I think. Helped me out when I first started, big time. Even with the major nerfs, your goal should be to get to the black bass level and you'll have a steady income for getting spells and gear on jobs you're leveling for the first time.

Tl;Dr black bass still good. Keep going until you reach that level. Guides should be the same IMO, just takes longer to get to the 50k an hour Gil level.

Would that be dark bass? Or black eel?

Similar in name, but it looks like black eel would be the correct one as they vendor for almost 200g a pop.

My guess is maybe he meant Black Sole. It vendors around the highest, which should be your fishing goal. It takes a very, very long time to get to Black Sole level, but it's doable if you're patient.

And in my opinion, fishing isn't just for beginners.... it's a great and easy source of income that requires minimal investment, besides your time, and for people who are low level and don't have to explore dangerous areas.

I agree, it isn't just for beginners. It takes a long time to skill it up and can be very profitable if you combine it with cooking or alchemy. I got to level 72 fishing when I played retail and never regretted it. (back when just pressing enter reeled in a fish, lul) It's also quite relaxing to do imo.

You can actually fish Moatcarp in North sandy without pulling up monsters from 5-11 (Anyrod, Insect Ball)
Then go right into Giant Catfish at 11-26 giant catfish vendor for 102 gil each (Anyrod, Minnow Lure)

What a great suggestion... Even though there's a fish you can skillup to lvl27 and make 700gil each instead of 102gil each
