I've seen other healers do it, I think: cast cure spells, heal during the battle until more is needed. Is there time to gain MP between casting cures on Tank and DDs during battle?

Still totally learning the ropes and wondering.

Id say it depends on your party and tank. If you find yourself just standing there doing nothing a lot then you might as well rest mp. If you have a members constantly taking damage or fighting mobs with really strong tp moves you might want to be up and ready. Just get a feel for the party and decide.

Any time you're not casting you should be resting. You gain nothing just standing there idle.

One thing to think about when resting is that the first tick of MP and HP recovered takes 20 seconds, and each tick takes 10 seconds after that. So if you have been resting for 35 seconds and someone takes a bit of damage, you should try to determine whether it is worth getting up immediately and casting Cure or if you can wait the extra 5 seconds and get that tick of mp. A good way to manage this is to put /echo lines in your resting gear macro and turn on timestamps in your chat log so you can tell how long you have until your next tick of MP. The longer you've been resting, the more worthwhile it is to wait until the next tick before standing up, because each tick increases the amount of MP you recover. This is a small thing that makes a big difference over a 3 hour party, especially at low levels where your only source of MP recovery is resting. Most of the time, your party will be able to wait the extra 5-6 seconds for you to gain 1 more tick of MP before healing them. This can add up to a great deal of MP over a long party and will make you a better healer.

Macro example:

/equipset 36 <wait 20>
/echo --FIRST TICK-- <wait 10>
/echo --SECOND TICK-- <wait 10>
/echo --THIRD TICK-- <wait 10>
/echo --FOURTH TICK-- <wait 10>
/echo --FIFTH TICK--

Points taken. Thanks for the input!

Very well explained, thank you :D

The more I play this game, the more I'm amazed at the level of sophistication that can be reached in a job. I'll certainly try out this macro.

It takes a bit of finesse and reading the flow of battle, but the golden rule is if you aren't doing anything and your MP isn't 100% is to take a knee and rest.

Beyond keeping people alive you'll learn to efficiently manage your MP;
- Tank doing a great job? You can get away with topping off the front line members with Regen if they're damaged
- Tank at full HP and only taking minor damage? (Shadows/Sentinel etc) Might be able to squeak about one rest tick

Pretty much its just a habit of unless things are really chaotic, just rest after the last spell you cast.

How do you use the macro /equipset 36 ?
Wouldn't this require something that is against nasomi rules? or is there a program we are aloud to use for this to work? I am a veteran player but the use of outside programs like scripts are against the rules I thought This would make this macro hard to use because all your lines would be using /equip item for each slot with no room for /echo.

Macros > "Edit Equip.Set". You can create custom gear sets for one line macro usage there. It is not against the rules, its a built-in game feature (albeit out of era.)
