| Post subject: | Damage struggles |
I have never played ffxi before but have wanted to start it for a while. I started a monk but can't even kill an even level enemy my attacks are doing O dmg and rarely 1 dmg. Am I missing something when starting out? |

I have the white belt equipped and don't see a weapon given at start. And the only one I can find is like 120gil and I only have 60 but can't kill anything to make more, so I guess I'm not doing something right. |

Even match just means that the enemy is the same level as you. You should be fighting things weaker than you until you build up more combat skills, better gear, or are fighting with a group |

Equip any of the 2 level 1 H2H weapons available to you and you should start doing more than 0-1. I had the same issue leveling MNK a long time ago, doing 0-1 damage until I equipped a H2H weapon and suddenly I was doing "normal" damage. |

Yeah u may have to buy a h2h weapon, make some money by npcing loot, can also hand in ur adventure coupon for 50 gil lol |

Ah. Need some seed money? Send a /t to Nishinoya. This game is notoriously unkind to beginners, but that's part of the struggle. |

Not to get too deep but yeh hand to hand skill starting at 0 and not having a weapon starting on mnk effectively makes your dmg 0, should be changed to start at a floor of 1 dmg to avoid that. |
