This is something that has gone under the radar for quite some time because we can all say we’ve benefited from PLD having a very strong position on Nasomi. With the increase of players in playing the past month, it’s time to take a look at how ridiculously broken this job is. Merits: 5/5 Fealty on Nasomi gives a PLD a complete magic shield effect for 3.05mins, or 1.35mins with 1/5 merits. 10 minute recast. On Nasomi, Fealty is a 100% resist rate on all sources of magic damage and enfeebling effects. This is full on immunity to magic, which you can use every 10minutes at a duration of 3.05minutes. To put that into perspective, this is like being able to use the RUN two-hour (yeah, technically 1hour, but w/e,) every 10minutes at 6 times the duration. https://www.bg-wiki.com/bg/Fealty (Current retail) and Era: https://www.bg-wiki.com/index.php?title ... ldid=36075 (Earliest BG entry) Job Abilities: Rampart on Nasomi gives the party essentially the same form of complete magic immunity as Fealty, but it extends to the entire party for a duration of 30seconds. Recast set at 5minutes before merits. Like Fealty, this includes complete protection from enfeebling effects. In retail Rampart did not act as a cornerstone (and crutch) in many endgame strategies as it does here, due to the incredible buff it has to its utility: https://www.bg-wiki.com/bg/Rampart (Current Retail) https://www.bg-wiki.com/index.php?title ... ldid=24631 (Earliest BG entry) https://ffxiclopedia.fandom.com/wiki/Ra ... did=175542 (Earliest Wikia entry) These abilities are so overpowered that a PLD need only hit 75, get a handful of merits, and go off to tank knowing Fealty and Rampart will more than compensate for poor support, gear, and/or player ability. I was never a PLD in retail, and I'm sure someone can fill in some more nuance, but it's pretty obvious that PLD is not functioning as it should. |

Having Cover be usable would be nice |

So you're telling me that rotating PLD Ramparts to become indefinitely magic immune, is not retail? |

Yes, I agree. There is a discrepancy with retail standard. Cover doesn't work. Pretty sure I had that ability in retail. |

I think the main thing is to consider here, is that the overwhelming potency of Fealty/Rampart on Nasomi create wildly bigger problems to game balance than not having access Cover. I have a 75 PLD, it's fully geared, and I have all of the merits mentioned above capped. I would absolutely love Cover, but I'm readily willing to concede that the issue with Fealty and Rampart is far greater than one missing job ability. For those who haven't reached endgame yet, these abilities completely change the tanking dynamic for virtually every fight. I cannot stress enough how much easier it is to do supposedly difficult content when you have a 3minute magic-invincible in your back pocket every 10mins to handle Wyrm flight phases, for instance. Worse still, the function of Fealty isn't remotely what it was in era, or even what it is in current retail-- not to mention how much longer the duration is. Couple that with the party-wide total magic shield Rampart provides, and it becomes absurdly easy for groups to build strategies that use these as a crutch to dramatically minimize, or completely nullify the magic based challenges certain fights are otherwise supposed to have. |

I agree fully with data presented, but protest the blatant plagiarism. |
