Post subject:  Has anyone heard any info on retail server end date?
Last night while making my way to the local shop, A trip I make almost nightly for supplies such as beer and some form of shitty horrible for me food. I was thinking about FFXI, mainly the vid dead posted of KB. Very cool, and since I was smoking a joint and already kinda drunk I forgot almost for a second that this was a current thing.

For a second I actually thought to myself, "I miss that so much" lol it was at that point I realized there are a shit load of people playing on Nasomi now! Then I started wondering when the retail servers were going the way if the dodo.

It was at this point either Bigfoot or a couple of cops tried to get my attention, I'm assuming cause I was sitting in the middle of the road checking out a sweet rock I saw. Well, I was not hecking around with some damn Bigfoot so I ran like hell and jumped a big ass wall into an apartment complex and lost him, or them.

It made the beer taste that much better knowing I escaped the clutches of a Bigfoot or some cops, or it could have been an alien, either way it was an exciting night!

No end date has been disclosed from SE. If there will be one, it will most likely be a long time before they choose to shut down. There are still a lot of subscribers even though it's a fraction of what used to be. There is still a lot of content to do for both solo play and low man - full alliance group play. As long as SE is still making a profit above the cost of maintaining the servers, the retail game will continue to live.

Edit: for anyone curious of what content I'm referring: Vagary, Incursion, Sinister Reign, New Aeonic Weapons (considered the new mythic but much more powerful) they are a grind. Lots to do still

I was wondering about that, I haven't played retail since abbysea came around so I'm WAY out of the loop. Are new people playing at all or is it mainly people who've been playing?

Reddit FFXI seems to have new post from returning players almost every other day. For completely new players I think that's a once every 2 weeks thing. Not that many but definitely there.

I remember when people thought Diablo 2 was gonna shut down their servers. Then they wiped the servers and started 'seasons' which was a great idea that kept the nostalgia alive.
