Post subject:  Any advantage to leveling BST to 75 on Nas?

Hi,

There's something that draws me towards BST. Are there some interesting things that a 75 BST can do better than other jobs?

I was thinking ... it would be nice to solo merit sometimes at work during downtime so which job would be the fastest to solo merit in FFXI?

Thanks for reading.

I'm not sure about 75 bst vs other jobs, but I do genuinely enjoy playing bst. It's just a fun job to me, and with no pet xp penalty, they get parties as well.

I'm not sure if BST or BLM is faster to solo merits... but yeah, if you're someone who doesn't have a ton of time in long stretches, BST is an outstanding job for that.

1. Bst can widescan
2. Geared well and paired with a nice pet they can net some drastic dps.
3. They can charm and drop aggro (e.g. valley of sorrows)
4. Tossin a biscuit can usually pull aggro onto the pet for a clutch situation.
5. (Correct me if I'm wrong but....) Pets can melee aerial targets (e.g. ksnm99 wyrm)

Those are some of the tricks a bst can bring to the table.

No pet exp penalty as long as the pet is even match or lower (jugs afaik are always even match). If you charm a T or use 2hr for a VT, IT, exp is based on the mobs level, rather than your level. Just something to keep in mind.

One very nice advantage: on Nasomi, your charm rate as /bst is tied to your level on bst main. Meaning you can solo on many of the jobs that have difficulty getting xp invites as /bst, and enjoy low rates of mischarm.

I solo'd many jobs this way... whm to 42, nin to 40, rdm to 60, etc. The only job so far the combo didn't work out well on, was blm :(

This is retail accurate

Thanks for the posts everyone. I do remember my RDM/BST being better than BST/XXX :) I also use /BST from level 1 to solo jobs quickly - it's amazing.

I'll eventually level BST to 75 for solo merits from work and XP sessions and LS events in the evenings.

The SUPER OP BST era was so much better than what it is now .. I have a main and alt at 75 BST fully merited and well geared and I never use it ... for soloing THF / WAR / MNK / DRK / NIN and my RDM alt are all better for literally everything. If you like solo'ing, create a RDM alt and THF main - you'll be happy you did.

If you just want to play BST because you like it ... go for it, but it doesn't do anything better than the above mentioned combinations suggested and is pretty much useless in the endgame scene.
