Did you click on this post because you thought I was offering a PL? heh, this post definitely isn't for you. But if you're curious feel free to keep reading. A couple friends and I decided to start up FFXI on Nasomi because we miss the old grind, the trials and tribulations of grinding through Valk, running to Jeuno and getting mauled by tigers in Batallia Downs, killing worms in Qufim and hiding at the cave entrance until dawn while we wait for the big scary undead to retreat at the sun's coming light. But I think somewhere along the way I missed the part where every time you get a party invite or try to set up a party the words "Power Leveler" come up. My friends and I have all had this scenario "Do you need a party?" "Sure I'd love to join!" "Ok Great, do you have a power leveler?" "No..?" "Oh ok, nvm" or trying to set up a party "Would you like to join us?" "Sure, do you have a pl?" "No..?" "Oh ok nvm" We even had a NIN leave our group because another group of 5 with a PL was short a member. Guess you really don't want to party like it's 2005, huh? The kicker is these people go to the Jungles in their 30's and complain they can't hit anything. My friends and I take bets on which party member is going to sigh and say "Man I wish we had a PL..." first. Now you can shame me and tell me that the lower levels "are just too hard" or "It's pointless to not have a PL up to 30+" to that I say, go play WOW or retail if you want the luxuries of casual gaming. I hope we aren't the only ones who get our dander up over this nonsense. Happy hunting! *edit* For the record, if I happen upon a party with a PL I'm not going to say no. Just have to be honest on that point. But never would I deny a person or decline a party because they DON'T have one. |

oh yeah that seems like a dick move, I did have a Dunes party where the player and his PL werent happy with the way the party was going after 2 pulls, so they disbanded then "/s sorry this isnt gonna work out" leaving 5 players scratching their heads. |

But, in all fairness, this isn't 2005. Things have changed, people have changed. The game hasn't changed, but technology has, and so too has our general attitude toward the simple act of grinding levels in the same old zones and camps we have for the past 15 years. Almost everyone can and does dual-box, and common sense makes most want to pair a melee with some sort of mage, wherein their first 75 is that job. Yes, we're a little spoiled now, but there's no going back. PL does almost nothing toward the general effectiveness of the party. They're mostly there to keep downtime low. Don't worry, you'll still get one-shotted by lizards in the Dunes, and it will still take you 5min to kill just one of them. |

And I agree with everyone of them, however my main focus isn't on having a power leveler, its the fact that people will refuse to play without one to the extent that they will: not join a party that doesn't have a pl, offer a party invite contingent on having a pl, leave a party without a pl to join one with a pl, and generally complain if a group does not have a pl. I'm fine with pl's, I'm not fine with the general selfish and spoiled attitude that comes with it from SOME members of the community. I believe based on your comment that you generally agree with me regarding this topic. |

*shrug* If you don't want a PL that's totally fine, just make your own PT's and tell people no PL allowed. I've seen quite a few of those because people want to preserve the old experience. On the opposite side of the coin people could be annoyed to be invited to a pt and told not to PL when they have one, which could in turn make them post a silly forum topic as well. |
