For the newbies like me who want to avoid bad experiences, my observations from playing about 2 months in Nasomi:

Fishing is awesome. Go start it asap.
PUG : Pick up Group (A new acronym for me)
This was kinda the standard back then. Lower Jeuno was all shouts of <Looking for Party><job>
but since a lot of the veteran players on Nasomi play with their dedicated static Experience party, Pick up groups have some kind of stigma on them, especially at low levels. Don't be the guy who forgets the arrows (me) lol. Youll be the focus of criticism across all chat logs. XD

Play Samurai or Ninja for instant PUG invites.
Get all the Outposts available immediately.
Get the chocobo license asap.
Never leave home without a warp scroll, sneaks and prisms.

Help everyone you possible can, they'll remember you.
/tell Pepino if you need help with low level stuff.

Thats all. FFXI is a perfect MMO that will never die for me, see you guys out there.

Please do not make Ninja or Bard one of your goals as a newbie. There is so much responsibility on your shoulders that far outweighs almost any other job you could choose. Play MNK, WAR, DRK, SAM, WHM, DRG, PLD as alternatives. Reputation is a thing on a small server, and if you're known for being good or bad at any job, people will remember you.

Total newbie here but...
You dont "NEED" it but you are optimized with "x"

Example:
I was asked twice if I had /NIN for my Samurai. I dont yet but I asked why and also did some forum reading on Samurai/Ninja.
Obviously now I know that the heavy damage dealer will pull hate and require more MP to heal. /nin relieves stress on the MP pool which will net the whole party more experience points.
Objectively the party is a game of numbers, and you want the sum to end in your favor.
So bring food, buy the gear and research your role.
