Post subject: | Fish camp lowman manaburn alternatives |
If you know, you know. Since it seems like the drama is silly around this camp these days, I figured I'd try and help people focus on some other viable alternatives when that camp is taken (which is like, most of the time now). Sure, none of them are quite as good, but all of them are better than getting into a flame war over a bunch of pugils. I might catch some flak for sharing some of these openly, but none of them are really a secret at this point. Dyna Bubu/Valk/even Qufim are probably preferable to any of these, but meh, who wants to wait in line when all you really need is some exp/merits where you can afk most of the time? Here are the few that I've personally tested with a similar-to-fish-burn composition that worked, and some notes about each. Some of these are probably "duh" ideas for most people (since most are generally just considered 'regular merit camps'), but here goes anyway: Get Crabs These guys will be your target (plus the occasional penguin/roly poly between pulls if you like): https://ffxiclopedia.fandom.com/wiki/Orichalcumshell It's a bit of a hike, since you gotta get out to the south side of the island, but there are a couple relatively-quick ways to get there (I prefer going through Nyzul). This is a tough camp to pull efficiently, and you'll almost always miss a crab or two (they aggro but do not link). However, if you start at the top of the hill behind the tree and weave your way through the little rock walls as you come down the hill, you should have plenty of time to gather most of them all up. A THF w/ AF boots works best as puller, but anyone /thf ought to be able to (though they may want to use powder boots to make it more efficient). Bonus points if you have some amount of movement+. Sadly, the crabs don't seem to give the 10% bonus exp, but there are 18 of them on the island, just like the fish. Bonus is that they're all aspirable, so you can keep going long after the Wootzshell would've died at Fish camp. Watch out for the ghost. Big Boi Birbs These guys will be your target: https://ffxiclopedia.fandom.com/wiki/Slough_Skua Pretty easy to get to, but there are only 14 total. They do link with the Marsh Murres, so you might be able to gather them in for some bonus exp. I've 3-manned this a couple times to good effect, though the pull is pretty tricky due to how spread out they are. They like to get caught up on trees and such, so the first sleep can be tricky. It helps to have the BLM be ready for an ES sleepga/2 if need be. The hard part I ran into is that since they're non-aggressive, they'll de-aggro/depop after about a minute of not being able to hit/do any actions against the puller. Damned Flies These guys will be your target: https://ffxiclopedia.fandom.com/wiki/Vauxia_Fly This camp is often busy with people meriting, but I've duo-dualbox burned it a couple times to mostly-great success. It's a little tricky to gather them all up before they deaggro but not hard as any job /THF. I usually start by pulling the ones up on the hill as you walk into the camp. I think there are 15 total there, but I usually ended up missing one or two. There's a Lamia nearby iirc that you might be able to get into the mix, but I didn't take the time to try and come up with an optimized pull path. Little Boi Birbs Pretty much everyone should be familiar with these: https://ffxiclopedia.fandom.com/wiki/Seaboard_Vulture At first glance, this would seem like a terrible burn camp (and it kinda is by comparison, to be fair), but if no one else is using the zone you can basically just go non-stop, especially with more than one form of refresh. While I've never been able to test it out, I'm pretty sure that if you can get two different pullers to come together in the middle, you can probably grab most of the 31 birds in the zone all at once. Getting them all together before they de-aggro, though, might be tricky. However, if this could be achieved efficiently, it'd suddenly be an amazing burn camp since you'd probably net around 1700-2000 more exp per pull than fish, with the same repop rate. While the above are my favorites, other merit-ish camps (like the crawlers/dragons/demons on the island in Mt. Z., or syncing down a bit and doing all the mourning crawlers/flies/crabs in B.Tree, etc.) should pretty much all work, as long as you can effectively gather them up. Casting/ranged-attacking mobs or far-apart-non-aggressive (i.e.: de-aggroable) mobs can make this very difficult. There are some other potential options that I either haven't been able to try out myself, or haven't quite 'figured out' yet. Gonna need to #ForScience some of these some more: https://ffxiclopedia.fandom.com/wiki/Greater_Colibri These might work, though I honestly don't remember if they actually link on Nasomi. They'd be completely fraught with danger (especially when all 20+ of them try and Horde Lullaby the sleeper/mages all at once) but it seems like there ought to be a way to make it work somehow. Maybe poison pots to avoid sleeps, and being on-top of sleeps so they don't have time to reflect a -ga3 back on everyone? Maybe not worth the effort. https://ffxiclopedia.fandom.com/wiki/Dweomershell Needs more investigation. Probably not easily pulled/possible at all, and I'm not 100% sure their levels are accurate. That said, there are a whole bunch of random higher-level non-beastmen monsters throughout the reef that might able to be gathered up and 'sploded. https://ffxiclopedia.fandom.com/wiki/Slime_Eater IIRC, they're level-accurate, and relatively easy to duo for some one-off exp. But, since worms lost their track shoes a long time ago, you can't gather em up. Not really a 'manaburn' item since their per-kill exp isn't anything special. https://ffxiclopedia.fandom.com/wiki/Boulder_Eater I'm convinced there's gotta be some way to kill these efficiently, but every time I've tried I just end up dead. Maybe COR doing m.acc roll and BRD doing threnody? Like Slime Eaters, they don't move and can't be gathered up, but they really are like lv100+ so the exp/kill is crazy. IIRC, unlike retail, they only have about 5k HP on Nas. If they can be killed relatively quickly, the exp/hr would be pretty akin/better than SMN burns were on bats back before ToAU levels were adjusted down. Make sure to stand further than 18' away or you'll get blasted with barf bombs. In retail, they're supposed to drop Platinum Ore, but I don't think they do on Nas. https://ffxiclopedia.fandom.com/wiki/Deforester Needs more investigation, but iirc they're all in the same room together. |
