Is this really a problem? I would be more of a inconvenience for the person who decides to have two names since they can never hold a private conversation with anyone.

I wouldn't say that it's a problem per se. However the game was "meant" to be played cooperatively and not being able to contact someone in game makes that a little hard. I'm not saying that I care, heck I'd be tempted to do it just so people don't send me a /tell, but just thinking about it from the perspective of the dev intentions I can see why this "isn't allowed".
