Post subject:  Hello, New here, curious question about the BCNM's

Back in the old days of FFXI the story mode bosses like mission 2-3 had level restrictions on them, it made the fights exciting and take teamwork. But retail removed the restrictions and allowed trusts so players could just solo through it and see the story of the game.

But I've always wanted to see what these missions were like with the original restrictions still in place, it would have been nice if retail gave us the option to turn the restrictions on or off if we chose too, I didn't want the fight to be too easy but I also didn't want to just stop leveling a class if I wanted to have the classic experience. Grinding on my own time is part of the fun.

So my question is, are the level restrictions for story related fights on? Or are they disabled like how it is in retail.

Hoi, Dragon fight 2-3 is Level Capped to 25. 5-1 is level 40 or 50 cant member. . 5-2 (Shadowlord) isnt capped. Only rank 6 myself so not sure about the next ones.

But no easy mode here :) No trusts , so need to get together ppl and go do stuff like in the good old days.

Oh shadowlord isn't capped? has it always been that way? Either way, glad to hear the caps are in, that makes me excited.

I never liked using trusts for those fights, the only reason I ever did is because none of my friends were around to play.

Now they get to enjoy the TRUE EXPERIENCE!!

well not exactly.. most of them are missing tp moves.. or are easier one way or another than they were, but its still more fun than 1 shotting them in retail these days.

Are the missing TP moves a result of the server emulation? As in is there a potential that they could get their missing moves back at some point? My friends and I plan on playing this for the long haul, we wouldn't mind taking our time before doing these fights.

That much being said, what about the chain of promathia areas, I heard those are all supposed to be capped as well and really difficult. Are those going to be the way they were before they were nerfed?

The standard caps are in place. 5-2 was uncapped during the target era.

CoP areas are properly capped as well, at least as far as I've seen (Promys, Riverne, Sacrarium)

yeah server emulation, they may be added at some point but its taking a while, yeah all cop areas are caped how they used to be. recently some of the cop fights were buffed so they do more dmg, are more resistent to enfeebs etc so they are a bit tougher now but are still missing a lot of tp moves. Here is a recent diabolos fight for example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aetI--hkiM0&t=1120 doesn't do nightmare, ultimate terror, camisado or anything! The tiles still fall though the gfx wont let you know so you just fall right through the tiles lol!

Yes, mission battles are capped according to the original retail experience.

Chains of Promathia is also capped... But it's level of difficulty resides not in the cap but in the glitchiness that happens sometimes on the server. For example, fighting the memory receptacles and final boss in promies is easy; getting through the receptacle teleport without having at least one black screen is the true challenge.

And I can't tell you how often my group couldn't get past a specific cutscene or obtain a key item.

The fights are easier than retail had been. But they can still be tricky sometimes.

As for Shadow Lord, no, he was never capped on retail.

Can also add that the old retail trick on Shadowlord stage 2 doesnt work on Nasomi. He does AoE and hits all players. Retail you could pull him up to the top of the stairs, so mages didnt get hit by the AoE. Here you get hit no matter what. So keep mp ready for cures on stage 2. A fun fight none the less :D
