Post subject:  Some sort of curb on power-leveling?

Hello all,

I fear this post will prove unpopular, so my apologies in advance.

I don't currently play on the private server, although I do think it's wonderful what Nas (and his team?) have done, allowing everyone to enjoy how things used to be in FFXI.

For me, the leveling experience is one of the most enjoyable aspects, but I find that, given the ability to dual-box, there is almost always a power-level with every party. This is the sole thing preventing me from playing, as while power-levels did exist back in the day, they were more of a rare treat (at least on the server I was on) and more often than not actually played by a human player (whom we could shower our appreciation on afterwards).

I would not advocate abolishing power-leveling, as being able to assist others is one of the things that made FFXI great, but somehow I'm not quite getting that nostalgia hit, and feel as if I might as well play retail if every leveling adventure has such a large safety buffer.

Further on this note, it would be great if all the Mission fights and BCNMs had their original level caps (maybe this is the case, if so, my apologies).

Thank you for hearing me out, and thank you very much for all the great work you've done in bringing this most wonderful era of gaming to life.

The caps are all in place, and PL's aren't as crazy as they used to be on here I'll say.

Not true. From my experience, PT with PL seems about 1 every 10 or so. It's there, it's noticeable, but not so often as you imagined.

And trust me, if you play outside of prime time (I'm in Asian time zone, and also EU players) the lack of balance jobs to form balance PT is way more frustrating. Having an extra heal is very welcome. It's not like true era with 3,000 online around the clock. Off hours you can see as low as 60 players. (which is still impressive since most private servers have that exact same amout during prime time)

And just my personal opinion, having a PL rushing you through 1-40 (or even 50) doesn't mean much when the bulk of EXP you'll need is 50++.

I've never had a PL except once when I was my own PL, so not sure why the complaints exist? Besides, what's wrong with having a PL? It just makes it easier, and the PL is outside of the party, so it's not like it takes up a spot.

The guy is complaining without even being on the server -_________-

How can you even complain without having first hand experience? That makes ZERO sense lol

I don't understand the hate toward PLs. We used to be able to have many accounts on retail, why would it need to change on a private server who is aiming a 2005 era.

If a player is dboxing and trying to help the party to get faster exp and levels I don't see what is the problem here. You should cheer for doing it :P

If Nasomi put "A curb on powerleveling" you'd be the first one making a post complaining that there aren't any groups on this server or not enough healers. AND YOU DONT EVEN PLAY HERE! that's like complaining about how mcnuggets taste, without ever eating any mcnuggets!

Cool, sounds great. I think I'll kick it up again then, thanks for the clarification :)

I somewhat agree with the OP. I'd say at least half of the parties im in have a PL. Im not in a linkshell so it's not like i'm partying with the same people all the time, there's just that many people d-boxing. PLing is certainly very useful and helps people get to the end-game faster, but I came to the server wanting the experience of grinding out levels normally. I definitely enjoy parties more when there isn't a PL but it's not like I get that choice every time.

PLing is like cruise control for your car. Every car now a days comes with it and the off chance you drive an older car without cruise control it sucks but is manageable.
