I'm sure there has been a post about this somewhere else, but it seems a little absurd that every enemy with access to an AoE spell, seems to excessively (and exclusively) spam that spell over and over again. Is there any reason to this, or is it just because #lolnasomithings? |

Like what? Worms in Qufim for example cast Stonega because that's what they always casted in retail, for example. Besides like choke or rasp or whatever else they cast |

Pick a fight with any WHM or BLM style enemy, and 9 times out of 10, you will get hit with an AoE spell. At least that seems like the percentage. |

It's RNG whether they use AOE spells/tp moves or not. |

I understand it's RNG as to what is used, I'm just saying that more often than not, you will have an -aga spell cast on you over any other spells that are in the enemies spell list. I'm just curious as to if there is a particular reason it is that way, or if I just have the worst luck on the planet and should just avoid any enemies that have the ability to cast spells. |

Your luck just seems to be running bad at the moment, I've personally had many OWNMs where they spam nothing but Diaga III and wipe shadows and others where they will never cast it. Same with things like sky gods. I can't really speak to low level mobs but it seems like it truly is RNG to me. |

in my experience the rng here seems to not cycle as widely as retail or some other servers. meaning when it goes into aoe mode it doesnt come out it as a typical rng would but rather starts working it's way off of that end of the AI's spectrum. but just speculation is all |

Speculation isn't good! Out of 108 casts, a few worms in Qufim: 15 Rasp 50 Stonega 12 Stone II 12 Stoneskin 19 Bind Disclaimer: Nasomi doesn't run on the most recent DSP code. Here is the most recent DSP code breakdown on how a spell is chosen by a mob: Does it have a Cure spell? If so, and HP is low, cast it (default chance for all mob families if not specified: 40%) Does it have a proper -na spell? If so, cast it (40%) Does it have a -ga spell? If so, cast it (35%) Does it have any buffs? If so, cast it (35%) Got this far? F- it. Try any damage spell. Still no? Buff Still no? -ga Still no? Cure Still no? don't cast anything So, in the instance that a mob has the default behavior %s, and the spells that the Worms in Qufim had, we'd expect: Cure spell? Nope -na spell? Nope. -ga spell? Yep. 35% chance to now cast one. ---- At this point we expect at least 35% of all spells from the worms to be -ga spells. Moving on, only 65% of spells will reach further than this. Buffs? Yep. 35% chance. This is means 35% minus the earlier 35% chance will get to this point. So we should expect a 22.75% chance to cast a buff at least. Moving on, only 42.25% will reach further than this. OK, so we got past the first specific spell section. Now we try to cast -any- spell. So lets distribute the remaining 42.25% amongst all it's offensive spells, including Stonega again! We should expect, in a sample size of 108 which is terribly small: Stonega: 35% + 10.5% (the split for being 1 of the 4 'random' spells it can cast at the end) = 45.5% (46% actual in sample) Stoneskin: 22.72% minus some unknown factor of deciding not to buff if already buffed sometimes (11% actual) Rask, Stone II, Bind combined = 10.5% * 3 = 31.5% (43% actual) tldr: Nasomi most likely runs the normal dsp code regarding choosing to cast AoEs or not. Stonega is getting cast just as often as you'd expect considering what the code says at least. The 'spells don't cycle' thing is just your imagination. It works here just like every other non-retail FFXI server. |
