Hey guys, lets start off with enjoying the hell out of the game. Fairly new player getting myself back into the swing of things after a long time away from the game. Need a little help if possible. Been leveling SMN and have it up to a 41 and moving along fairly quickly. I have also been doing some farming and gathering to help myself along in the gil side of things. I know when I get to 51 the staves for the SMN job open up and I have started doing my research. I know that I could get the Light Staff for 200k for example. But I really am looking for the Apollo Staff for Carbuncle. I would def like to get all the advanced staffs for each avatar. But the price is 800k. I am no where near that amount. I look and see I could afford to buy the items needed to make the staff, but my woodworking is only at a 15 so would need someone else to make it. If anyone is available I could take the items to where they needed to be, trade and tip some. If this is not how things go on this server and I should strictly stick to the AH for items I apologize in advance. Thanks for any help if someone can, Rockfisch |

I would recommend getting an Iridal Staff for SMN until you eventually get a Chatoyant, as you can use it for all of the avatars with only the one inventory slot. I want to say that Iridal gives the same -perpetuation cost that the HQ staves do as well, though it has been 2 years since I used one, so I may very well be incorrect there. If you would prefer an Apollo's, however, I have woodworking 100+5 and can attempt to make it for you for free provided you have the materials. Under optimal conditions, the best HQ chance is about 25%. I can make the Iridal for you as well if you want to go that route; the ingredients are all 8 of the NQ staves and a dark crystal. Let me know in-game if you still need help with this. |

Off the top of my head, it should be optimal performance vs gil wise to buy an apollos staff (which sell for around 500k(just researched there's an apollos for 550k in jeuno bazaar)) and buy nq staves of the other elements (which are much cheaper than a light staff). Light staff price is way higher than it should be. SMN only perps with carbuncle anyway, the other avatars are bp-release until 75, so you can probably get by without even the other nq staves. I can make all the staves, it costs something like 150k an attempt for apollos, average 4 to make a hq. It will be cheaper for you to just buy an apollos, as I've gone as bad as 1/7 on hqs, the math says it's profitable over the long-term to craft hq staves, but short-term you can get really hecked which is what you're attempting; as I said before, carbuncle is really the only perp that matters until 75. |
