So I am trying to understand why nasomi has taken away solid old school methods of exp. I don't think forcing people to do "standard" exp parties is in the spirit of 2005 ffxi. I mean if you are going to take away pet exp and sync zone exp then give us the op exp books and let us exp that way. I just think it's a lie if you advertise the server as true to 2005, but then take away the things you just don't like. And of course to add things like blue or au zones. I'm cool with changes that make the game experience better, but I think anyone who has played retail and had multiple 75s+ Will tell you that exp is probably the worst part of the game (the grind 60+). Am I alone? |

What was taken away from a true 2005 experience? Books were most definitely NOT available in 2005! |

I've always felt exping was probably the most satisfying aspect of XI, personally. Watching as your skillups flash across the screen and your character gets stronger is really what I liked. Pet experience wouldn't bother me if it was back but definitely no to books. |

No to books, MOG no to books. Pet XP shouldn't be nerfed, and XP Rings should work after they fix whatever exploit it was that people were using with them. |

Books were definitely way late in the game, however EXP rings in my opinion were just out of the normal '05 era that seem to be a norm with newer and older returning players from retail. I think they should be always active and done like retail. You can only recharge them once per conquest tally (week) and with all the issues with camps and lvl sync recently, if exp rings are in some people might not feel like they wasted a lot of exp if they can use their charges. Besides most burn through them in one party, enjoy the extra exp slow or fast camp, and move on ![]() |

Nas seemed like he wants the rings enabled but hasn't been able to fix their related exploit. |

Personally i found the journey to lvl 75 much more fun and satisfying then actually being lvl 75 My best time and memories in FFXI i have from the time i was on my journies to lvl 75. Being lvl 75 was just meh. It's just personal of course but i always found the end game of retail FFXI in 2004 the least appealing of what FFXI had to offer. As i said in another topic; the game is not going to do anything for you. You want to have fun leveling you have to make and find the fun yourself, the game is not going to do that for you. The uber everything must be super efficient and super fast mentality is killing in the long run. I have seen so many people burnout on FFXI leveling and quit completely as they could only see XP/hr and nothing more. Sometimes (in my old LS case pretty much all the time ![]() |

I have to agree as well with the leveling aspect being my favorite part of the game. I loved being the puller for parties. It keeps my mind active enough not to get bored in party but still able to watch tv in the background. I remember having a static party with my thf that was so much fun. It was only once a week for about 2-3 hours but we just had a blast. Then the rest of the week I would level my RNG or solo on my DRG. The part of the solo aspect I like was refusing to xp in normal areas. I wanted to take full advantage of the game. You could find amazing xp areas solo that you can never use in party and farm while at it. Leaches in Pashow, Spiders in desert while popping NM...it could mean weird status effects but you are soloing, who cares. I think the greatest part of the game is going out, exploring new areas, xping in new places, and having fun with the people you party with. 75+ becomes almost like a job. I love endgame but a lot of fun is taken out and replaced with a very strict, business like attitude. |

The main point is that fact that methods of exp have been removed and hindered the ability of some people to play the game the way they enjoy it. One of the main things I always loved about ffxi was that I could choose when I wanted to pt up or to solo. Now that choice has been taken away. Pets do not offer any real exp and level sync areas for bst pts and stuff have been nerfed as well. What happened to ffxi being a game where you could carve your own path and get to the endgame however you desired? Some jobs I do not want to take to a group, others I wouldn't even consider solo, isn't that the point? By nasomi's single view the option to decide has been taken away and you must "standard exp pt" or suffer a severely reduced or none existent exp rate. I do not think this is staying true to ffxi in any era really. It does stay true to the good old adage that SE will always take good things away, just now it's nasomi. Didn't we come to nasomi to go back to the golden era before SE screwed it all up? |
