Post subject:  Making gil around YOUR starting town

Thanks Cilarnen for writing the original version of this guide. This will be a reorganization and an update to that same guide, aimed at players who are even newer than who Cil was aiming for. If you're interested in making money differently than described here, and you've already progressed beyond the dunes, check out Cil's thread in the link above.

There are some important things to note regarding Nasomi and making gil:
1. You can have up to 100 items listed on the AH. Don't check your sales status, though.
2. There are a lot of players selling a lot of items. You will need to price your items competitively. This might mean undercutting - but you don't need to undercut by hundreds of gil to make a sale.
3. You'll get better at making money as you level up and can kill more, different things - or can craft more, different things.
4. Always have signet up! Signet allows you to earn crystals when killing monsters.
5. Do not start as THF thinking you will make big bucks. You are much better off starting as any other job and first reaching 30 - then, you can solo a THF up to 15 and use it as your sub job. THF is so poor in party play before level 15 that you are better off getting it to 15 solo instead of heading to the dunes.
6. Items sold in stacks (12, or 99) sell much more quickly than singles in most circumstances. If an item isn't listed here, look up the price anyway and see if it's worth holding onto.
7. Crafting can be profitable, but not always. Add up the cost of the materials, and see if you make a profit by crafting any of the suggested items.

The items of note can be sold on the Auction House for a good bit of gil in addition to any income from repeatable quests.
Your fame will increase by completing quests, including repeatable. This will allow you to do the useful one-time quests for big rewards.
You can purchase items from the AH to turn in for repeatable or one-time quests, or even for use as crafting materials once you have some income.
For repeatable quests that require 1 item at a time only, you can use a macro: '/item "Item name" <t>' to trade the items faster. This will not work if you need to trade more than 1 of an item or more than 1 item at a time.

San d'Oria
Most of your starting gil made here will be from Bat Wings, Rabbit Hides, and the occasional Dark Crystal stack. Don't forget to get your free money from Sleepless Nights once you've reached Fame 2.

Repeatable quests:
Fear of the Dark [Secodiand - Northern San d'Oria (F-6)] - 2x Bat Wings for 200 gil
The Merchant's Bidding [Parvipon - Southern San d'Oria (E-8)] - 3x Rabbit Hides for 120 gil
Starting a Flame [Legata - Southern San d'Oria (K-6)] - 4x Flint Stone for 100 gil

One-time quests:
The Rumor [Novalmauge - Bostaunieux Oubliette (G-8)] Requires San d'Oria Fame 3, Level 10, and Access to Chateau d'Oraguille - Beastman Blood for a Scroll of Drain
Sleepless Nights [Paouala - Southern San d'Oria (M-8)] Requires San d'Oria Fame 2 - Mary's Milk for 5000 gil

Items of note:
Wool Cloth - Goblin Weavers in East Ronfaure will drop these rarely, but they vendor for almost 2000 gil.
Dark crystals - Besides undead, San d'Oria has Funguars which will drop Dark Crystals even during the day time. Dark crystals sell slower than the others, but for more gil. Ghelsba Outpost has an area with many Funguars.
Ascetic's Ring - Worms in King Ranperre's Tomb will drop these.

Crafting:
n/a

Chests:
King Ranperre's Tomb - Battle Gloves - 7k

Bastok
Most of your time will likely be spent killing Worms and Bees. Spend some time in Zeruhn once you've reached level 2 or 3 and grab some of that Soot gil.

Repeatable quests:
Minesweeper [Gerbaum - Bastok Mines (F-8)] - 3x Zeruhn Soot for 150 gil
Gourmet [Salimah - Bastok Markets (L-8)] Requires leaving the zone to repeat - Treant Bulb at 6:00~12:00 for 200 gil or Wild Onion at 12:00~18:00 for 350 gil
A Flash in the Pan [Aquillina - Bastok Markets (K-9)] Requires waiting 15 Earth minutes to repeat - 4x Flint Stone for 100 gil

One-time quests:
Mean Machine [Unlucky Rat - Metalworks - Cermet Refinery (G-7)] Requires Bastok Fame 2 - Slime Oil for a Scroll of Warp

Items of note:
Beehive Chips/Honey - Bastok has bees all over the starting areas as well as on the large hills in both South and North Gustaberg.
Zinc ore - Worms will drop Zinc ore, so you can double up on opportunity in Zeruhn Mines.
Hermit's Ring - These drop off Stone Eaters in Dangruf Wadi.
Bird Feathers - These go for an impressive 2k a stack as of writing this. They vendor for only 1 gil. Save up 12 and make some money!
Crab Meat - Towards Dangruf Wadi, you will find crabs. Their meat goes for ~270 gil each to a vendor.
Mining - You'll make gil on average doing mining in Zeruhn even without harvesting gear, but it's still a risk. Worth trying if you're in Zeruhn!

Crafting:
Copper Ingot = Fire Crystal + 4x Copper Ore
Beeswax = Fire Crystal + 3x Beehive Chip + Distilled Water

Chests:
N/a

Windurst
The easiest starting town to make gil in by far. Almost everything you kill drops something that sells or turns in for a quest.

Repeatable quests:
Creepy Crawlies [Illu Bohjaa - Windurst Woods (I-6)] - 3x Crawler Calculus for 600 gil
Mandragora-Mad [Yoran-Oran - Windurst Walls (E-5)] - Four-Leaf Mandragora Bud for 120 gil or Cornette for 200 gil or Yuhtunga Sulfur for 250 gil
Teacher's Pet [Moreno-Toeno - Windurst Waters (North) (L-6)] - Bird Feather and Two-Lead Mandragora Bud for 250 gil

One-time quests:
Making the Grade [Fuepepe - Windurst Waters North (L-6))] Requires Windurst Fame 3, Level 10 - Test Answers for a Scroll of Aspir

Items of note:
Silk Thread - Crawlers drop these. Try to hold out for a full stack of 12 before selling them on the Auction House!
Beehive Chips/Honey - Windy has these too. Kill these when you aren't killing Crawlers - but watch out for Final Sting.
Bird Feathers - What, birds too? When you aren't flooding your inventory with Silk, Beehive Chips, Crawler Calculi, and Cornettes, kill these and save the feathers to sell in stacks.
Crab Meat - While Windy has crabs, and the meat will vendor for ~270 gil each, you're probably better off doing everything above first. Windy is that good.
Yagudo Necklaces - These drop from any Yagudo.
Wild Onions - Goblins bunched up in Lily Tower (J-7 entrance in East Saruta) will drop these which vendor nicely in a stack as well as all the other goblin drops.

Crafting:
Beeswax = Fire Crystal + 3x Beehive Chip + Distilled Water

Chests:
Inner/Outer Horutoto Ruins - Moth Axe - 10k, sells quickly, and is rarely listed.

Put this on the wiki and ask Nas to add it to the sidebar, then ignore every forum post asking how to make gil.

Phase 1 Mine in Zeruhn for a while.

Phase 2 Use that money to level Goldsmithing as high as you can.

Phase 3 Profit.
