Post subject:  Let's talk about Dual Boxing.

Recently I have reached the point where having a second character to run around and kill things with would be a great help.

Creating and levelling an alt would take time and resources. This is not a problem on it's own; however I do have some concerns.

Chief among them being population. We are booming. Big time.
I'll get to the point;- do you guys think that at some point in the not too distant future, dual boxing will cease to be allowed?
I say this as somebody with next to no technical expertise.
I don't know if Nasomi will consider 2000 people, many of which with 2 or 3(mule) characters logged in at once a problem.

I want the benefits of a second character, but I do not want to create it, do missions and limit breaks, level it to 75 only to have to delete it.

nope. The character and account rules haven't changed in almost 5 years, from when he had 10 players to over 3k unique IPs a week now. I wouldn't expect it to change.

I don't understand why something being one way in the past means it won't change in the future.

I appreciate the reply; but I don't suppose you could elaborate?

Edit: Unless population has 0 effect on this.

Population has changed and the rule hasn't changed. It won't change when the population continues to change.

Alright, then. Thanks very much.

I'd thought that there might be a cracking point. EXP camps having no room, people waiting for hours on end.
Nasomi has changed things in the past encourage group play, but if the only factor that can affect this is
population has changed/hasn't changed then I can accept that.

Dual boxing only by helps the server. We are still less than 1/3rd of prime retail era population, and limiting dual boxing would cut that number close to one half. So in reality we are maybe at 15-20% retail population.

We have about 800 players peak right now, of which a large quantity are dual boxed. Retail servers had 3,000+ at prime era.

About 75% of all characters online at any given time are controlled by a unique IP, so your estimate is way off.

You're missing the point. Maybe I wasn't clear enough...

The post was about whether or not the population would get to a point where dual-boxing would become a problem.

Supposedly 3000 players is the same as 12,000 players, so we're fine.
