Hi, I'm fairly new to the server and I've been loving every minute of it but I can't help but wonder why the server lacks a discord. If your argument is against global connectivity/chat I can understand that- but isnt that exactly what naschat accomplishes (except people hardly seem to use it because no one uses IRC anymore)? Private server discords offer a sort of campfire experience for the community to build itself around. The forums and subreddit really don't see enough use and I'd love to just hear what other players are up to while I'm at work or on the train. These days everyone is on discord. FFXI can be unfamiliar and frankly uninviting to modern gamers, and it would be a shame to lose people because they don't feel comfortable asking questions/waiting for a response on IRC or the forums. |

It won't work with over 1,000 active players and Nas doesn't want it. |

There is intentionally no discord. Do not create a server discord. No one should be expected to use discord, ever. |

Naschat is for support, not global connectivity. Linkshells and forums are the ideal method. Nas doesn't want a) global chat and b) for people to feel the obligation to HAVE to join the discord otherwise you couldn't accomplish something. Plenty of ls's have created their own discord, maybe you could find a shell with one if that's up your alley? |

I could understand not wanting to use discord a couple years ago (I used vent for awhile after discord came out), but maybe nasomi is open to change? Honestly besides possibly over-connecting the server and not wanting to deal with moderation I can’t think of other good reasons to avoid discord. |

Yes, other than those very obvious and valid reasons not to have it, I also can’t think of any. |

I've had no problem receiving help via Linkshell and /shout and on Nasomi whenever I was in a bad spot, the community is awesome and the in-game avenues provided already work. Unlike a WoW guild, it is socially-acceptable to have many link pearls for various purposes, crafting, running BCNMs, helping newbies, social chat, etc. Find a linkshell that suits your needs and you should be golden. Several of them also have their own private Discord too, if you don't like typing. |

Nas will NEVER run a discord server. |

As long as the discord was purely social (ie, no LFG), no one will feel they’re disadvantaged for not taking part in any conversations. The community would be connected to a very similar degree, except response times would be faster and discussion more personal as a result. I’m sure a number of players would be interested in moderation, though I can understand if nasomi didnt want to organize mods in the first place. |
