This is nice. I started last night and I was curious about draw distance since I always used it before in retail. I thought maybe that option was disabled as a plugin. Is there a list of plug ins that are ok to use?

Q. Which plugins/addons are authorized?
A. distance, tparty, timestamp, and recast. These are already loaded by default when launching the game, except for recast. To load recast, type /addon load recast.

Great stuff, thanks for sharing!

Does anyone know how to change the map transparency? I know when I played back in 2003-5 I had it set to slightly transparent, so I could have my map up and run around and see where I was going at the same time, but I can't seem to find that option now.

mip for performance: As high as FFXI allows. But you probably never, ever want to go beyond single digits, it looks really bad sometimes that way. Very high resolutions (4k, 8k) can get away with mip mapping near 10 and still gain benefit, but...
mip mapping for quality: 2, 3, or 4, whatever you need to stop seeing the shimmering distance textures (watch gif in the mip mapping thread to see). Once you stop seeing the shimmering, stop raising it.

bump mapping for performance: off

For the longest time I've had crappy FPS performance despite the fact that my PC should spank this game, I never really noticed until I watched my partner play on her PC (R9 200 series) and my work PC (GTX 1070) that the game was silky smooth compared to me (R9 300 series) getting constant frame drops.

By the looks of it if you're an ATI user you can try driver pack 22.19.164.4 (probably absolutely ancient) which although I haven't had time to fully test it, running around a packed Bastok Mines is running perfect in 60fps mode instead of chugging down to 20-30.

Does anyone know why my /ambient either doesn't work or only increases gamma on models/entities and not the entire screen?
