I level 0 in fishing and I have been looking at guides and most say to go to Knights well in West Ranfaure or the port in sandy. No matter where I can't catch anything. It keeps saying I lost the fish due to my skill. I"m using lil worms and a bamboo fishing pole. I haven't gotten any skill ups either.

Use a nasomi-specific fishing guides, as things are slightly different sometimes here than on retail. A few guides are listed at the bottom of the Fishing page on naswiki: http://nasomi.com/wiki/index.php?title=Category:Fishing

There's many places to do it, and I really doubt any of them are much better than the others.. because 0-5 just plain sucks, but I did it in Selbina with little worms with very little complaint.

As the others said, Fishing is long and grueling at first, but if you survive those few levels, you can seriously bankroll a new character with it, whether you need expensive spells, ninja tools or ammo.

Quick walkthrough to get started:

  • Get a clothespole by farming Goblin Fishers.
  • Buy a stack of little worms.
  • Make the trip to Selbina and fish in the port from 0 to 5. This will take many hours. Make sure to grab the Dunes outpost if your city has it (via a Supplies Quest at your gate guard), you'll teleport back here often.
  • If you haven't given up at this point, follow Meeep's guide to skill up and consider purchasing a Composite Rod on the Auction House (up to 30k gil usually). It's the only big investment you'll be required to make, and it is an excellent rod that won't break unless you do something crazy.

After Fishing 5 and with a Composite Rod, if you want to make good money you can start spotting fishes that sell well on AH, and for a reliable income you can vendor fishes you get following Meeep's guide. Good luck!

Just follow this guide:

I used it all the way 96 fishing skill.

Just ignore the following zones because of the fishing nerf: Nashmau, Sauromugue Champaign

On Buburimu, southwest sea cliff overlooking Bibiki Bay entrance (F-10) You don't have to fish there. You can just fish along the shore where it's safer if you're a low-level.

You can stay and catch Crescent Fish for a long time. Plus, it's actually pretty good money and catch rate is good.

I used to catch Black Sole as a low-level in Qufim Island, just pay attention and let the monster catches go by not doing anything, otherwise you will get owned.

Took me about a month straight of doing nothing but fishing to achieve 96.

This has been the most accurate and useful leveling up guide that I have found:

Selbina was a terrible spot for me. I went like 3 hours and 400 tiny worms before level 1.

I went to port windy and hit lv10 in a few hours.

I'm actually in the process of writing a huge tips section for that guide as I skill up.
Best place to begin is Selbina with clothespole and little worm as said before but if your level is really low there are also fishing spots inside all 3 starting city. The problem is that level 0 fish (e.g. Cobalt Jellyfish) cannot be directly targeted there so skilling up will take significantly longer and will waste a lot of bait.
Most people go to Valkurm Dunes to begin partying around level 13-14. Low-level items are relatively cheap at that point and can be bought from NPCs so items farmed from low level mobs should be sufficient. Best thing to do is get a clothespole before heading to the dunes then fish between parties.

Whoever told you to use little worms failed you. Sabiki rig is where it's at, just use worms for practice until you're confident you can fish without losing a 2k lure faster than you can make money to replace it.

All hail Composite Rod + Sabiki rig.

The vendor fishing guide on the NasWiki is best IMO. Took me 3 weeks to hit lv. 56 fishing and have finally been able to afford gear and weapons.
