Search has been down 3 days in the morning(that I have played this week) it is honestly crippling - I saw a guy shouting for sheihi(sp) ... EU player have to wait till 2pm till nas wakes up, give someone a restart button Nas - seems to take you 5mins to fix. |

If even Nabutso, who's like Nasomi's right hand, doesn't have any special permissions (I do tend to believe they're not the same person) my bet is if he ever relies on anyone else it'll be if and when he decides to retire, and even then it may be like the Kupo server, where the new maintainers got the player DB but not the server code. |

The real problem is search crashing in the first place. It's caused by hackers packet injecting and crashing the search server (just like many zone crashes). It's just that search is server-wide, but zones crash individually. Really it's surprising it happens as rarely as it does, but clearly as more people show up, it's been happening more often. |

I'm not the most technical person, but Nab... To be clear: You're saying that the search going down sometimes 3-4 times a day, at this point, is all because of malicious activity upon the server...? Because, at this point, it's almost unbearable and is absolutely the number 1 thing threatening the server and it's growth. It's -crippling- for most of the population, whether you want to believe it or say there are ways to still do activites. The fact is, basically everyone doesn't. It's embarrassing. My buddy has joined the server, from work, and has already basically quit. He's been online 3 times, and has yet to be able to actually XP. |

I know how serious long search downtimes are and I've discussed it a lot with nas already, before these 3 nights of search being down in a row. I was blowing up nas's PMs when Ninja was streaming and search went down just as they tried to resync. They had to party without sync, at lv 16~18 in dunes, doable, but still terrible. Maybe if we never had level sync, that wouldn't feel so terrible, but we have sync, but regardless of sync, we still need to be able to search (don't forget AH). In order to get crash logs, nas doesn't restart search automatically right now (but he could). He can fix search instead of auto reboot it once he has the information he needs. |

I wasn’t suggesting you don’t appreciate it, but it sure as hell seems like he doesn’t. The AH being down, not being able to find party members easily even if you do mind not syncing, obviously the syncing. It just makes it feel like the game is completely unplayable for newer players, and if it’s their first experience there’s a really good chance they don’t return. |

Then play retail, because then you pay the salary of someone whose job is to make sure these things don't happen and therefore owes you something. Jeez, it's really rude that someone voluntarily maintains this huge project. not only without any compensation but also ends up getting scolded. |

I think the main point is, he takes on the project solo and doesn't want help. We all enjoy the server but it does really suck when search goes down. We get he has a life but the server is truly crippled when search is down. People need to chill on the back of Nas boat because its a free server. Its his project yes but he puts himself in the boat of doing it all himself. So we do have the right to have opinions of when shit breaks. We love the server but its pretty unplayable when you can't buy anything or can't sync or can't do much when search is down. We just want some sort of resolution. It always seems to hit at the worst times. |

Its not rude that people are presenting their primary concerns to the person maintaining the game. Search going down is becoming a bigger issue magnified by the fact that more people are beginning to regularly participate daily. It's much better if everyone has aligned priorities and goals and clearly at some level they are misaligned currently. Nas is just one person, you're right. People are contributing to his success by pointing him in the direction of the most imminent issues. An explicit choice to ignore that without even offering a temporary fix, is rude on his part. People already overlook the duct tape and rubber bands holding any private server together as is, and they are complaining about a feature that makes the core aspect of the game impossible to perform. Being a volunteer in this regard does not absolve any party of criticism. People have come to rely on this server for their hobby, and weather or not its free or a labor of love is a moot point. I, and pretty much everyone else in this thread I'm sure, respects Nas's decision to abstain from continuing at any point in time. But if he is going to continue, then the criticism is perfectly okay too. While Nasomi may have the largest contribution among all of us, if we are a community then we have at least some equal say as a community because as you pointed out, we are just as free to leave. Clearly both parties gain something from this weather its enjoyment or other esoteric satisfaction, and while he is clearly an excellent human being, that doesn't make Nas infallible. |

Ironic that the one guy without a PhD in his sig is the most well spoken out of anyone here. |
