would be cool to let me "esc" when a mobs bites...to avoid waiting until it gives up , better fish rate for higher lvls would be the cherry on top

People come and go. If a maint is scheduled for monday and then he has to spend just a day on moderation, then it's likely gonna be delayed more than just one day as even more stuff comes piling in on that moderation day. And that's exactly what happened.
