I've been using this laptop for 2 years to play FFXI. It has always run at 20-30 FPS in the past. I took a 2 month break from FFXI (Feb - Apr), and have since returned with terrible fps. When I log in, I generally get 25-30 fps for a few minutes then it plummets. Even in areas with no one around I am lucky to get 10+. I have changed nothing on my laptop in the mean time. Maybe I missed some type of update?

Things I have checked:
1) Multiple routers/wifi connections: does not solve problem
2) Task manager: CPU, GPU, and Memory all operating at under 25% while game is launched so I am not being bogged down there
3) Adjusting ffxi config to include turning off shadows, weather effects, etc.

Did I miss an update or something that is causing the worse performance?

I am playing on a Macbook Air via bootcamp. Processor Intel Core i5-4250U CPU @1.3Ghz, 8GB DDR3 RAM, and Intel HD Graphics 5000 GPU, with Google Fiber Wifi. Again - I have never had an issue with this laptop until mysteriously about last week when I returned.

May be dropping to low power state. Apple products have always been a bit wonky on the thermal throttling side. Something may have changed on the OS or hardware side, and the GPU and/or CPU are throttling down.

Could try running something lightweight in the background to see if that interrupts a false idling low power state. Unless it is a heat issue causing it to kick in...

Raist - If I actually open more items (web browser tabs, other apps, etc.) the FPS will drop even lower to like 1-5 fps. Also - I notice the computer itself starts to lag more.. I did a speed test I have at least 50mbps download/upload far away from my router. Also If I sit closer to the router it does nothing.

Is it possible the laptop is just too bogged down with too much stuff in hard drive? I know its almost to capacity on the partitioned drive.

I don't know that generation of Macbooks, but I know quite a few of them have terrible thermal throttling issues. A drive filling up won't affect performance that much, unless it's nearly at the limit.

Anyone else have any ideas? What could possibly be going on? I used to run at /fps 1 and get 40+ FPS. Now I get 5-10.
