So, I'm in Ifrit's Cauldron WITH a coffer key. I'm weak but that shouldn't matter. I try to open the coffer. I get the following message "You cannot open the chest in a weakened state." "The chest was a mimic!" The mimic proceeds to attack me. I CANNOT target it to fight back. I eventually die and lose a level. There is something VERY WRONG with that sequence of events! |

Working as intended. Read ffxiclopedia, it has all your answers Edit: the targeting issue may be a glitch but the rest is right |

I was NOT trying to pick the coffer. The only thing I've seen on ffxiclopedia about mimics is concerning failed thf picking attempts. The Ifrit's Cauldron page shows Mimic as an event mob when thf fails pick attempt. The page on mimics only mentions failed pick attempts by thf. The section about picking locks says nothing about trying to use a key while weak. I didn't find anything about spawning a mimic while using a key while weak. I read the weakness section, mimic sections. Even so, I should have been able to defeat the mimic anyway. It took 15-16 free attacks on me. I had 3k tp when is spawned btw. Would you please tell me the page where it says a mimic will spawn if a key is used while weak. Thanks. |

By the way, I was 13 levels about that of the mimic. |

There's always a chance for mimic if you pop while weak or in the red, regardless of tools or actual key used. Dont pop a chest while weakened. |

I know it doesn't spell it out, but this: "Coffers cannot be opened while invisible or weakened, and opening a chest will result in losing effects of Sneak and Deodorize, possibly in aggro range from surrounding monsters, so special caution should be used when opening one." Will get you a mimic on Nas. The targeting issue is indeed an issue. Some ToAU mobs share this bug. (Imps) |

Thanks for that quote. I was able to find it under the coffer category. Although my reading of it says that you should just get a message saying you can't do it. Similar to trying to open a chest/coffer or door while invisible. The way I understand it is that you're just supposed to get a message saying that you can't do that under those conditions. The mimic spawning was bad enough. Being unable to target a mob that's attacking you makes things even worse. Dying and de-leveling in an out-of-the-way place is just the cherry on top or the straw that breaks the camels back. |

Also, the ONLY way a mimic spawns (according to ffxiclopedia) is with a failed lockpicking attempt. |

If you've played ToAU you've experienced targeting issues to some degree. Yes this should be fixed. Report it in the bugs thread. Unsure if Nas changed to weak -> mimic on purpose (even with coffer key) or just a fluke. |

every failed coffer should spawn as 20 mimics to deter the massive amount of THFs on this server and drive the price of life belts up |
