Post subject:  Can't Fish, Sabiki Rig Breaks on Every Cast
I recently (tried) starting fishing. Saw a guide on these forums, which told me to get a composite rod, sabiki rig, and go fish in Selbina. My experience thus far has been:

/fish
- (maybe 1 or 2 seconds pass)
- "You give up"
- Sabiki rig is broken

I tried logging off and on and trying again. I tried unequipping and equipping my rod and bait. I tried unequipping all of my gear. I've now tried 4 times, and I am 4/4 on breaking the rig on first cast and have caught zero fish (and haven't seen the fishing minigame I'm apparently supposed to play).

Help?

Okay, when it's saying "You give up" that is either you hitting Escape, Enter, or a mouse click on the screen.

Before you start fishing use this command: /blockmouse

That will disable your mouse clicks as 'enter' commands in the FFXI game window, it will still select the window but it won't cause you to "Give up".

So after you /fish, try to avoid any key's but the left and right till the fish stamina is depleted then 'Enter'.

Thanks for the reply. I'm 100% positive I'm not hitting escape or enter, and 98% sure I'm not clicking my mouse, but I will give this a try the next time I'm online!

I would watch a video about fishing first. It might be moot. I'm able to fish, but have no patience or desire to do so.
