Post subject:  Laptop Graphics Cards & Mouse issues

Hi guys,

I'm new hear and just starting my adventure back in vanadiel after probably a good 7 or 8 years away, but really enjoying the vibe so far, so much nostalgia!

Anyway, the reason I wanted to post is I had a ton of issues getting the game running and just wanted to share my solutions as I saw a few threads which helped me some, but not all and took a ton of searching to find (at least for me)!

First, I play on a laptop with an Nvidia graphics card and suffered the from the game not recognising it and using the onboard graphics, to disastrous results! (15 fps is painful!) The solution to this was a rather nifty glider some clever fellow produced you can find here:

http://dege.fw.hu/

You just unzip the wrapper and stick the .dll files into the FFXI folder

I had to mess around with the settings a bit in the programmes config file (bumping Vram to 512mb) to avoid random crashes but I think this is probably quite an individual thing depending on your set up.

Now this got me a solid 30 fps and 50 to 60 if I wanted to switch up but annoyingly it also introduced a mouse cursor issue whereby the mouse would not show up making menu navigation and selection a real pain not to mention trying to move the camera around.

My solution to this was to use the Nasomi rather than Ashita launcher. Not sure what is different between the two but Nasomi loads the mouse perfectly. I had some issues with the Menu/Text resolutions but follow the Nasomi Read Me to solve these if you get them.

So I hope that is of some help to people.

This is a great game and the above really helped my ingame quality of life!

Thanks to Nasomi for keeping the spirit of FF going!
