Download the installer from the downloads section, there is no longer any need to update. |

You need to update whenever Retail updates. If Retail hasn't updated, you don't need too. Maybe once a month check? I don't know what/if there's a normalized update cycle. |

Is there a reason to update? I havent done it ever since I downloaded this game, and I stil login and play everyday just fine. |

SquarEnix likes to mess with the ID Tags of various things(items, NPCs, Quest information, etc.) each and every update. If your file version doesn't align with the server version, I believe it won't allow you to connect because of all sorts of random glitchiness that would occur otherwise. But as I said, dunno how often SE updates their servers anymore since they tried to move everyone to XIV and it imploded....both times. Often Nasomi has put up an announcement indicating an update was needed. YMMV |

im currently using the auto installer on nas download page, im about 40 mins in and its running okay |

This method will get you to the latest official update. Nasomi has said we will require VER 30170329_0+ to play but this method will put your game files ahead of server files which causes a problem with Craft GP items as far as he can tell. |
