I'm back. Sorry.. Something broke. lol.

Later, when I tried running: wine "/home/USERNAME/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/NasomiXI/SquareEnix/Ashita/ffxi-bootmod/boot.exe", I was getting stuck in a logon loop. So, I did as the guide suggested and deleted my wine prefixes including .wine and reinstalled and rebooted. Now, I can get past the Nasomi login, but I'm getting other errors and it looks like WINE is crashing:

Code:
Hairpin fix applied!0009:err:ole:CoGetClassObject class {bcde0395-e52f-467c-8e3d-c4579291692e} not registered

0009:err:dinput:DirectInput8Create CoCreateInstance failed with hr = 0x80040154

 Closing...

I'm confused as to what broke.. I was able to get to the opening game screen before..

Any ideas for my case above?

Any hint will be much appreciated! ^_^

Some odd issue with imm32.dll. No clue. Reinstall WINE/delete the old WINE prefix?

Could be that I installed Wine Stable 32bit using the .pkg and not installing from .tar.gz?

I understand that the above two should give the same result for this purpose (running ffxi).

By the way, I already have Quartz 2.7.11 installed.

Also, I get some errors even running winecfg

Code:
andrea$ winecfg

Update: could be APFS file system related.

I removed every trace of Wine and re-installed the 32 .pkg on an external drive, where also the Nasomi exe installer is located
currently rolling installation, I will update

nailed it, it's working.

For future memory, in short I encountered 2 main pitfalls and this is what I did:

1) Installed both WINE and FFXI on a separate external drive (you need to run winecfg to create a drive D in a directory of said external drive)
2) used original imm32.dll.so (modified one does not work)

--> remember to download the new ashita.zip boot (not present in current Nasomi v20 installation)!

I played around with a few things and reinstalled wine. I'm getting a little further now, but my client is crashing when I launch the game, after I accept the agreement:

The program boot.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close...

In the terminal, I get (as well as other information):
Code:
0049:fixme:dbghelp:elf_search_auxv can't find symbol in module
Unhandled exception: page fault on write access to 0x00000014 in 32-bit code (0x7d45fb7b).
0049:fixme:dbghelp:elf_search_auxv can't find symbol in module
0049:err:dbghelp_msc:pe_load_debug_directory Got a page fault while loading symbols

I'm at a loss as to what's going on now.

just wild guessing: maybe you installed Wine with 64 bit option?
another thing: in my case everything works WITHOUT substituting imm32.dll.so

Also for the record: running very smoothly (40% of CPU) @ 1440x900 on a MacBook Pro Late 2016

Hello I have a few questions to your solutions.

1) External drive as in install it both to a separate physical external HDD?
3)The new asita.zip via nasomi or ashita website?

Thank you. My internet isnt as fast so I dont want to waste download 5GB here

I'm sorry guys, I know this question has probably been answered. I do not know where to put the "imm32.dll.so" file. Do I take another file out/delete it and put this file in its place? If so, which file name do I remove?

DISCLAIMER: first time commenter/user here.... I'm very computer illiterate but would love to start playing ffxi again. I just bought a new MacBook Pro, and after looking around it seems like you've gotten it to work on MacBook Pro.

could you or anyone break down (I mean, really dumb it down, everything I need to do/download) the process of installing on MacBook for me? this whole thing with all the coding is VERY intimidating.....

I appreciate it very much

I get to this point on install and I get an error.... MacBook Pro 2018 Mojave

In the Terminal window:
Type: cd ~
Press return.
Type cd Downloads/NasomiXI.v.20/ (Your path might be different depending on where you downloaded it)

"your path may be different" what exactly does that mean? im literally following this guide letter - for - letter. should I be typing something different? I downloaded via safari... if that helps ... sure it doesn't
