Hello, I'm a new player and I'm having trouble connecting to the server. The download and installation went well, Ashita launches, but when I try to connect to Nasomi, the only thing that loads in the command window is the welcome blurb - no option is given to login, and I can't put in any inputs. After 30 seconds or so, it prints "Failed to connect to server! Closing..." and the window closes.

My guess is it's a network issue on my end. Are there certain ports that need to be opened, permissions to be given, or is there something else I need to do to connect to Nasomi?

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately, I don't even get as far as seeing the "Sending Key" message. What loads is the following:

Welcome to Nasomi

Live Chat: http:/nasomi.net

At this point I can't enter anything (the login prompt doesn't ever appear), and after a short time I get the "Failed to connect to server! Closing..." error.

I've run through the Troubleshooting section and everything appears to be in order. It's a Windows 7 machine, if that helps at all.

Found out a little more. I checked the Ashita debug logs and it seems that when connecting, Ashita will call PointerManager through PluginManager and then stop. Comparing this to the sample log, the next step SHOULD be Mine_Direct3DCreate8, but this isn't happening.

I've updated my graphics drivers and I ran dxdiag. Both DirectPlay.dll and Direct3D.dll exist on my computer and are unlocked. On Windows 7 64 bit they should just run automatically, right? I've checked the Windows Features, but there is no Legacy Components option, so I can't check for sure if DirectPlay/Direct 3D are actually enabled, though I'm not sure why they wouldn't be.

Working from the troubleshooter I've tried quite a few other things, but without much luck. Hope this info helps lead to a solution.

Check to see if you have ports blocked or something. Have you tried simply rebooting?

I have some ports blocked through the computer's firewall. I tried unblocking them all and doing a fresh reboot, then loading up Ashita and trying to connect, but sadly - no dice.

I also tried giving exemptions to Ashita and boot.exe, and when that failed I disabled the Windows firewall, but unfortunately no luck there either.

Do I need to go into my router and manually enable the range of ports that FFXI typically uses? Or does Nasomi use a different set of ports?

Come into naschat and download teamviewer and I'll try to see what's wrong

Looks like it was a problem with my router - all fixed!

Anything in particular or did you just reboot it or something?

It was auto-blocking a large swathe of ports, ones typically used by file-sharing programs. I tried messing around with port forwarding/triggering, to no avail, so I ended up just disabling that function and the game finally worked. I don't know which ports specifically were the culprit, so I guess my suggestion to others who might encounter this problem is to log into your router and see if its blocking anything, then work from there.
