Hello everyone
By any chance does anybody have an idea on why I can't hear the in-game sound effects like footsteps, magic spells, menu navigation, chat <calls>, etc. ? The in-game music works excellent, I can hear it pretty well without any issue, is just that I can't hear the sound effects.

I already googled a lot but there is only a handful of threads with a similar problem and most of them don't even have a solution. I tried the solutions for the ones that do without any luck.

This is what I tried so far:

1- Check FFXI official Game Config exec to make sure the Sound is turned ON and increased it to the maximum number of simultaneous sounds ( 20)
2- DIrectly checked the FFXI config under Windows Registry to ensure these values were set OK.
3- Checked In-game config, to make sure both Music and Sound Effects volume were set
4- Downloaded Ashita again.
5- Reinstalled FFXI
6- Uninstalled all audio drivers and reinstalled them again.
7. Under Ashita config, I went to game options and I enabled the audio in-game instead of using the registry values.
8- Tried several options under windows sound settings.
9- If I open Play Online Viewer ( directly and for testing porpuses) I can hear the menu navigations sounds OK
10- Under Windows Volume Mixer, there is no app muted nor with Volume set to 0.

Like I said, nothing seem to work and I already ran out of ideas ;(

I'm having the same issues. I've did everything listed here as well and I can't figure it out. My music works fine. My sound effects are mute though . If any light could be shined on a solution to this problem, it will be greatly appreciated.

My guess is surround sound or similar sound channel related. Try using stereo sound only on your speakers/headphones.

Still no sound efx after changing to stereo sound. Has anyone discovered a solution to this problem. I've searched the boards and it seems like nobody has a solid answer.
