I'm looking for the best, quietest and most mobile gaming laptop that I can buy for under $1,000 USD. My current laptop works fine but it's starting to show some age. The screen hinge is breaking, for example. It's about 5 years old so I don't mind upgrading. I plan on using it predominantly for FFXI, and dual boxing. I don't need to run max settings but I'd like to run the game well. I currently drop below 20 FPS a lot, so it'd be nice to have a smoother gaming experience. I havent bought a laptop in 5 years so that is why I'm seeking the advice of the Nasomi experts.

Must have:

- A SSD. More quiet and less heat than a rotating HDD.

- At least 8 GB RAM. Preferably 16 GB.

- A graphics card that isn't going to wake up my wife at 3:00 AM if I decide to go camp an HNM.

What do you guys suggest?

Here are two that I've found:

It's not the graphics card that makes the noise, it's rather the fan that cools your cpu/gpu. What you can do to reduce that noise is to either undervolt your cpu and/or restrict your energy options for your pc to 99%. This will prevent the cpu to boost in higher clocks and let it run at base clock for ~2700mhz max which is enough for most situations in ffxi. I have nearly the same specs you linked there including the i7-7700hq and a 1050ti. Restriction on the cpu is what helps the most, for me at least, since you cant really undervolt a 1050/ti actually.

You can prolly go with both laptops, just get what you want. The real down part is when you install ffxi on the HDD, dont do that! I had micro shutters every 10 secs. Knowing that, you might want to look out for a laptop with at least a 250GB SSD (windows, programs, other games...).

You can get a whole lot of laptop for under $1000. Your options are pretty much limitless aside from the best laptop available. SSD's will be standard in that realm, as will 8gb ram. At that range the specs are pretty consistent to have everything you want as far as specs go.

Pretty much the biggest factor will be the little things. Can you disable the touchpad so when you're typing your hands don't bump it? Are the viewing angles good? Is the screen washed out when you look at it from the wrong angle? Are the usb ports convenient? Is it heavy? Can it have a second HDD for storage? Those things you'll be looking back on thinking "hmm, i wish i had...".
