I have an issue where FFXI increases CPU usage over time (per task manager)

When launched, it runs ~15% CPU, everything works fine, is smooth, etc.

by 1 hour in, this creeps to ~35%, and sometimes will rise up to 50% if I leave it open long enough and whatever other factors.

It does not seem to be affected by:
Resolution - I've tried this at 1920x1080 with settings on high, 800x600, and 400x300 with background size 128x128 (this starts off at ~1% but ramps up just the same)
Other graphics settings - from high to low with everything turned off in config, doesn't make any difference.
Area - if I'm at South Sandy AH with people spamming skillups and crafting, when I go into MH, CPU% does not lower.

Computers having this issue are both laptops.
1: Win10, i5-3230m, 12GB ram, 256gb SSD + 1TB HDD, GeForce 740M. (Note, this previously had Win8.1 and ran well before switching to Win10)
2: Win10, i7-5600U, 8GB ram, 256GB SSD. (no dedicated GPU)

They're not fantastic by any means, but they're still 10x the processor that the Athlon 64 I played this on back in the day was. The single core benchmark for each of these is 3x what that was.

Does anyone know why this is happening or have a solution?

It's an issue with an infinite loop that exists in the boot.exe/xiloader.exe used by private servers. There's a fix for it that will be included in the next launcher.

Thanks for the info! I'll just reset whenever it gets too obnoxious until then

Hate to bump (another) old thread, but this has been an issue for quite some time. Its getting pretty frustrating and I can't seem to find a solution beyond having to relog both my characters every time it happens, and it happens frequently. Makes dualboxing longer content a massive pain in the ass, causes everything to chug, discord voice cuts out, etc.

I've been using the latest launcher, nothing seems to have changed. Has there been any progress on this issue? Anything at all?

I stopped using the laptop with the i5 altogether probably around the time of the OP, and the other laptop was my sole computer that was used for a lot of stuff that IMO was more important so I didn't do either of those (bios is heavily locked down anyway). I tapered my playtime and took a needed break

lmao I'll be farming a lot more for him soon I guess. I built a new desktop so I'll have plenty of CPU to spare I guess.
