Hi its off topic and since I don't really have any other blogs and don't feel comfortable looking on facebook, is there any way I could have broken any laws or sued for pepper spraying a drunk man at my jobs parking lot that tried to attack me after I found out he was trying to steal a car?

He was very drunk and was lying on the floor in parking lot screaming, he gets up jumps into a very expensive car, my job is scetchy so i keep watch on our lot, I had thought maybe he was in his car and needed help so I approached him and asked him if he was okay, the way he was screaming I thought he may have been jumped or hit by a car or something. He tell me to heck off, someone in another car yells that the car was not his. He tells me its his friends car he is in my store and I tell him I will help get his friend because he doesn't seem okay. I get my manager outside and next to me to go get his friend and the guy starts telling me to heck off and get the heck away from him. He opens his car door and tries to get out, I ask him to stay in the car we will get his friend. His friend comes out of the store because of commotion and is not his friend.

At this point he starts arguing with me there are a lot of heck words and he seems aggressive and drunk he shoves me once and Starts shouting that I don't know who he is and that he is gonna heck me up so i pull out my pepper spray and use about a third of the tank on his face. I tell him to stay down and I call the police.

kind of scared I may lose my job or this hecker may sue me, I work at adult store so the owner of vehicle didn't want to press any charges...

I HATE MY JOB...

seriously should I prepare myself or am I being paranoid? shit if i knew the guy was trying to steal a car I would have just called police...

I'm not a lawyer so take this with a grain of salt but if the cops didn't arrest you, I'd say you're in the clear. If the guy was clearly drunk and disorderly, you were fine to do what you did. I seriously doubt you'll get charged with anything and I doubt the guy will try to sue you. If the cops got a statement from the other guy, then there's a witness in your favor if what you say is true.

yeah your in your personal rights of self-defense. Anyone who harms your person or property is violating Universal Human Rights and you should have no worries about defending yourself.

Your boss also cannot tell you if you can have pepper spray. Carry what makes you feel safe.

Well, they can in reference to the job itself. I work for a hospital and there's a very basic "self-defense" security puts you through. It's all passive escape techniques. Guy said straight up, if we use anything other than what they showed us, we will be considered aggressors and promptly escorted off the premises. 2 years of actual self-defense = they out to hurt you, you win as fast and as hard as possible if you don't have an escape. I've looked at securities policies and even they aren't allowed to go into a dangerous situation. They're glorified ushers for the police.
