I was a pretty hardcore player (understatement) back in the ToAU/WoTG days. Had 6 level 75 jobs on Valefor and basically stopped playing just before the level cap increase. I was Selkerz of Bastok then and I'm Selkerz of Bastok now.

Anyway, I'm poking stuff with my puny Dagger in the highlands on my THF15. I'll be playing relatively casually during GMT. Say hi if you like!

Edit: Also, could someone let me know what the current state of play is with fishing? It's difficult to rack up gil as a new player...

Hiya, and welcome (back) to Vana'diel! Things are pretty close to what you remember from about the launch of ToAU. No WotG here.

Fishing is pretty much done upto 50. Be sure to tell someone in nasomi.net ("naschat" as we call it) if you run into any issues with Fishing; it's a WIP.

If you need a community shell pearl, shout around for one; most people are sackholders, and the pearl is aqua-colored named MogHouse.

Welcome, though "hardcore"... There's players here two years old that have 10-12 75's and xp is harder here than it was in retail in most cases.

Fishing has been a mixed bag over the years. It works, it doesn't work, it sort of works, SE broke it, it works again, etc. Things have seemed stable, but it's being released in stages. Nas said he doesn't want anyone to 100 until it's ready. He says it's a 100hr game if you know where you're going and what you're fishing for, so averaging a level an hour I'm guessing. Sure seems that way. Previously, when it was glitched, it was much easier to skill up, but I missed that time. Now it seems to be the real deal.

Pick up a cheap rod and disposable bait, at least one zone in your city disposable bait will be the prefered bait. Use that, and when it's heavy, cancel. If you cancel you lose your bait/lure, so disposable bait is best. That way you won't break your rod.

My hardcore time wasn't in terms of EXP, just sheer time spent on the game! I practically lived in FFXI for at least 3 years..
