If you see something bought and sold for from for example Littlejoey--- Bigjoey for a page of text got to the website and check what cost of item was 2-3 days ago im sure you will find it was a lot more, in 1 day dropped the cost of a item 5k a pop nice swing for him. just don't lose your gil to tactics like this ^^. Undead skin was the example im speaking of.

Sounds like someone is needing a lot of undead skins in the future and wants to try and push the price down. It's scummy but this kinda thing happens all the time on the auction house, it's just never with names as obvious as this.

Undead skin are also infinitely more common now that players EXP off the mobs who drop them. So one could say the old price of 5k/skin was a dated price and needed to be updated.

This is fair game.

Albeit pretty dumb on Joey's part to do it in such an obvious manner, because people will pick up on it.

Not enough for the price to go back up to what it was. But I guess price is pretty arbitrary in a game like this without any real links to supply and demand in most items.

Who says 5k was the right price? Who says 1k is the wrong or right price? An item's worth is what someone is willing to pay (or sell) it for.

Obviously Joey was fine paying 5k for it, but got tired of paying the 5k and price-fixed it down to 1k to deepen his already deep pockets.. Which is smart tactic, how the rich get rich in the first place, being smart with their resources.

Its a smart tactic, just dumb when its one Joey buying from another, people tend to wisen up. We'll see if this topic changes anything. Probably not.

Often times when the crafted item wont sell often enough at a certain price determined by the cost of mats, crafters will seek to lower the cost of mats, in order to lower the cost of the final item so it sells again.

Undead skins make a very limited number of limited use items. Austere robes and slops, Errant pigaches, tundra jerkin, and northern jerkin are not flying off the shelf into people's inventories.

If a price is too low, the items will get bought out, and people wont farm enough of said items to keep up with demand. You may lose money in the short run to price manipulation by people, but you were also probably gaining extra money that you were lucky to get at the high price if the manipulation holds.

what annoys me most about those tactics is when they drive the price so close to the NPC price... those skins sell for a little over 800 a pop to an NPC, and it dipped down to 900. That was a pretty ballsy gamble.

This is the opposite of what you're talking about... here its lowering prices... but i know what you're talking about.. a good recent example is Carnage elegy that was sold out at 40k,.. then raised to 100k and now there is a good supply
