As other people have said, it's because I don't want to be disturbed. I don't mind helping people, and actually enjoy it most of the time, but I'm not your doormat. Every person needs some amount of privacy and alone time. They have to strike a balance between working on others and working on themselves. It sets boundaries and is a courtesy. If someone is /anon, it means don't disturb me for anything short of an emergency. And there's no such thing as an ffxi emergency except for I have KB claimed, need help killing, and it's free lot dring.
