I already sadly found out that the tutorial quests, blue teleporting stones, and trusts don't work on the server. However, I just picked up a quest that's called The Trader in the Forest, which is a simple quest that just makes you run to someone and turn something in. But it seems like even simple quests like these don't work!

I don't know what to do, maybe I am doing something wrong? I am level 6 and I am trying to do quests, and level up. I don't want to just spam kill things in the starting area. Any idea why my quest doesn't work? Any idea what things work and don't work on the server?

I feel discouraged to keep playing because I don't know if I'll start something or get into something and then only find out that it doesn't work on the server.

Never heard about the tutorial quest. However the other 2 were convenient things that were added in later FFXI, it's not part of the 2005 FFXI so they are disabled.

I really hate solo leveling with trusts. Here you'll have to endure the pain of the Dunes and do it traditionally grouping with other players ;) Group is a little easier to organize thanks to level sync but can still be hard at times.

Not everyone wants old school experience though so I understand.

Take a look around the Wik. List of things not working are probably there somewhere. And feel free to ask around in MogHouse LS as well.

This MMO is different from other modern MMO's in the sense of how you level. Spamming killing things in starting areas is how this game is designed to be played. It helps you become familiar with your job and it's mechanics. The quests will come later.

That being said, If you wanna give it a shot:

This should provide you with a good intro.

Ffxi is different than most mmos in that killing monsters in starting areas is exactly how you level up. Quest don't give exp like other games, they typically contribute to the story and yield various items. It can get a bit grindy at times but it basically helps you become proficient at your job so you can react faster down the line where split second actions can be the difference between success or a party wipe.

And there are some quests that simply are glitchy--the majority of era appropriate ones DO work, but sometimes you'll run into one that doesn't. Nasomi is aware of it, but there's a long list of things to work on and sometimes minor quests get thrown down to the bottom. Are you sure you did the Trader in the Forest quest step by step correctly? XI is very punishing and will not let you skip even a minor step on quests.
