Just test it, sync down and unequip gear and see what it actually gives you. Something like a hauby syncs down well for most jobs because there aren't any comparable bodies so even with just 1str and 4 or 5 attack it's worth it.
Weapons if you sync down even 1 level below it you might as well pull out your fists, if you don't exp with multiple weapons for syncing you're probably dragging your parties down
