Yep, it's well known. But you get the full xp from the pet when that happens, based on its level. A party getting 34xp is just another one of those regular bugs that occurs as well, and I've seen it plenty of times.

I'm open to believing that a party killing a former pet may still get some xp if I see proof. But until then I'm gonna say it's not a currently known bug.
