The issue I have is that if I'm going to put up...food as an example. If I'm going to have ti sift through 50+ items, then zone to put them back up on AH, it looks much more appealing to undercut. Because I have something on the AH right now that's listed at 3500 when the current price is 3000. Being able to alter/return this somehow, I feel would solve the issue of needing to undercut just so you know it sells/doesn't get stuck on the AH forever.
Thanks for being the one person to take and objective and logical approach to your response as opposed to being a nas fanboy getting offended and jumping down my throat that i'm questioning this server's rules/setup.
I'm not looking for everyone to agree, but let's at least get a conversation started without being a bunch of assholes.
The AH game is much different for people that sell consumables. If you want to move inventory without undercutting OR waiting 25 days for a market rebound, it requires listing and relisting almost constantly which is a HUGE time sink. It's to the point where if I just said "fuck it" and went back to primarily fishing for gil (which to one poster's point is BAD for the economy) I would probably make more money/hour when everything is said and done.
To the poster that said there are people willing to play the AH game: The way I see it is that there are 2 types of people that play the AH game:
1. People who drop their pants on every initial listing just to make a quick buck (from what I observe, the MAJORITY)
2. People who believe in selling an item for what it's worth at a fair price so they can make a reasonable profit for their time. (The vast minority)
Just trying to get the message out to crafters that we will all sell our shit and for a good price even without undercutting if the majority can get into the second category.
Well all make a heck of a lot more money too.
I sell consumables exclusively, and until last week I had almost 14 million gil, after coming back to the game with less than 2 million at the tail end of May. So this is an extreme non problem.
Secondly, if you're the only one in a room calling people assholes I think that says more about you than everyone else.
Third, as I said in my OP if you don't have the time to play the auction game that is truly unfortunate, but it works for the vast majority of players. If you cannot actively manage your auction slots "because its a massive time sink" that qualifies as you not having time to play the auction game. Relisting auction slots once a day takes maybe 30 minutes if you're unambitious and slow.
Finally and most importantly. There is no such thing as a "Fair Price." FFXI is a video game, and the value of everything in the game is a function of time. If someone has more time, or if they value their time lower, a fair price can wind up being at a valuation lower than you're personally willing to sell. Furthermore, seeing returns on gil you've listed on the auction house is another function of time. Every day new gil enters the economy making gil worth less and less time every day. So having more now is worth more than having more as a result of your arbitrary definition of market fairness. Please, for the love of god stop playing the game inside the box fort you built in your head that limits your ability to play, and play the game by the rules set for the by Nasomi and the game engine. You'll die happier and possibly wealthier. Every time someone mentions fairness in relation to the auction house, I cringe the mightiest cringe.
