Ah, the gloom of the Aery ablaze in the light of 500 red dots because someone attempted a gear swap...

I see no issue with growing the population: the more people we get, the more and more this becomes a truly in-era server. Remember: Nas did mention a couple of new CPU's he's yet to install in his last stream: if he puts those babies in and stuff improves then he's set a precedent that he's willing to shell out the coin for hardware improvements if they indeed work to fix issues. Grow the population, create the demand for hardware upgrades, and they will come.

Yeah he has been sitting on them for nearly 7 months now with no end in sight. Color me skeptical on the timely improvements.

I started on the server in 2014, leveled to 75, did some end game and quit before the population reached much over 100. There was SIGNIFICANT issues back then. I recently came back in January and it was like a completely different game to me. There have been so many fixes and upgrades over the last few years and I hope they are continued to be made but it's slow going. That being said promises for fixes of content back in 2014 have still yet to be fulfilled.

More players more problems.

There is 100% a dot on the utility curve for players. I think if you have minimal issues finding a party and people to do content with, then that's probably enough players. Everything else like the economy will scale around that figure.

Having 3k+ players won't make your experience any better, and only serves to make it worse. The more the merrier is a trash sentiment.

That may be a bit overboard. I agree that with the current setup more players could bog this server down significantly, but I also agree with Vavaud that if the server becomes stable enough to handle it, why not. I’d love to see eight competent and distinct linkshells compete over Fafnir successfully, but as it stands now that won’t happen. If Nas makes improvements and the server becomes more stable, let’s get the word out. But until then I’m not so sure.

Because, that level of competition is bad. It encourages players to cheat and be shitty to each other, including things like botting, strategic disclosure of bugs, RMT infestation and any other number of externalities. Also, big linkshells suffer from having not enough gear to go around and players becoming disenchanted with the game and either leaving for other linkshells or killing them through lack of participation. Extreme competition like you want doesn't exist. It just leads to people botting and circumventing the rules realistically, and that hurts everyone. Finally, this game is already extremely punishing for new players and getting a job to 75 is a weedout process. That's why Final Fantasy XIV is a WoW Clone, because XI is too time consuming for most normies, let alone a server where they are completely new to the game in their late 20s early 30s. This is all considering the fact that the server is timelocked, and there's literally no rush or need for competition either and yet people have to have their epeen despite that.

Did retail servers hit 200 in DA at a time? I don't remember it ever being quite so crowded. I would bet the average Nasomi player is far more hardcore and knowledgeable than the average in-era retail player was. If I'm correct, it won't take nearly as many players to create an era-like atmosphere in endgame.

I suppose I should have clarified. We probably all have our own perceptions of what this era was like in retail: I was more envisioning highly crowded cities, constant shouts for events and collaboration, constantly seeing new faces, etc. 200+ in DA? I wouldn't even begin to know if that is anywhere close to accurate on my server in era, so I suppose I can't speak to that part of the "era" experience.

If nasomi needs funds to upgrade the server he has a large playerbase that would happily donate, i myself am rich as fuk and would love to help the server anyway i could : )

Disagree, the best part about this server is the high pop, seeing people everywhere, selling stuff on the ah very quickly, filling parties fast, hell even dying right near a zoneline and knowing if you get up to make coffee someone will pity raise you within 10 mins is amazing.
