New or returning players should pick Windy. If you're just starting out you can farm silk, sell it to an NPC, and not have to wait days for something to sell on AH before you can buy equipment or spells for your new character. No need to beg or cry about the fact you don't have enough gil to buy leather equipment set at level 7 or scale mail set at level 10 to have in the dunes on day 1. Get a head start on Windy fame, which is the hardest to get, unless Bastok is in 1st place and you have the gil to buy a ton of cornettes, if you're new you probably won't.

After you get some gils in your pocket and have some fame for Windy you can always change to one of the other nations.
