IMO they spawn more here than on retail. I've been killed a LOT by pirates, including getting smashed by Blackbeard & Silverhook quite a few times. It took me camping hard across 6-7 days(+/-) with a friend in tow to help me kill the NMs. I got both clubs waaay faster here than on retail. Same with the sand charms. When we looked for them, they were rarely there. Not looking for them? Right up your ass. It's how ffxi do. Sometimes you just have bad luck. It can really suck, buuut it makes eventually getting the reward actually feel rewarding ˚◡˚

The only thing I'd think that needs to get "fixed" with them, is to have them actually arrive on the boat when it's go time, instead of just being there, one-shotting low levels before they even get a chance to load in.

All you need is pirate bait. Someone low level that's just trying you get from A to B, or that is only interested interested catching fish. The game knows they want nothing to do with pirates, so naturally it will spawn them. Seems like they pop every time I get The notion to fish.

I camped pirates for 10 hours with my mule and a friend. Not a single pirate. Not sure if that's low. I feel like it must be broken or removed or deactivated.

THANK YOU(!!!) for making this topic.

I've been camping the boat for 2 weeks now and have encountered pirates 4 times all spread between days. I have yet to get my Sand Charm due to the reliance of being loaded into the boat that has the pirate music, the reliance of them ACTUALLY spawning, AND the low drop rate.

Seriously, what's up with that? If the pirate music plays, I expect pirates. At least fix this if you intend to keep their appearance rate low.

I've spent more time on these two boats than I have in both Bastok and San d'Oria combined.

This is worse than camping HNMs.

Nasomi has stated earlier last week on IRC he had done a temporary fix to them, but I have yet to notice any difference whatsoever. Had I known sooner they would appear significantly less compared to when they were first fixed and implemented, I'd have gotten mine from the get go.

And seeing them by chance and luck if you weren't religiously camping them =/= fine. Anyone who actually has been camping them like I have knows there's something wrong.

If they'd just spawn when the pirate music happens (which happens at a very REASONABLE chance right now by the way), things would be fine, but needing to rely on 2 factors (the music and them actually popping) is pushing it.

Whats the Sand Charm for? Quest for the Glass Fiber Fishing rod chain?

I'd like to mention another issue that I've encountered twice - You enter the boat and immediately after the cut-scene where the boat leaves port, immediately when the game resumes inside the boat, certain pirate-related mobs (e.g. pirate pugils, crossbones etc.) spawn inside the ship interior, not on deck and aggro you, nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, if you're low level and don't have someone to protect you, you're dead. Seems like a bug to me.

They spawn on the deck, it's just that they see through the deck because the navmesh is incorrect and aggro through it and kill you.

Nas is well aware of this noob devastating bug.

Then how are they able to transfer to the inside of the ship? In both cases it happened it did not go on deck, I never even had the chance to go on deck actually.
Also, I was under the impression that mobs (other than elementals) can only spawn on board during a pirate attack or when fished up so how come they spawn at all?
Also (sorry for the nagging) there should be at least some kind of warning that this can happen (even just have an NPC warn you, something, until the bug is fixed).

Sorry, just not how nas works. Stuff is broken. No one knows it is until they try it, or someone tells them, etc.

I'm aware of that, I'm not expecting nas to work on this night and day to fix the bug as soon as possible (you can only complain to retail since you pay them for that). But there are easy workarounds once the bug is known, e.g. having the cashier NPC advise you to wait for a high level player to join you could prevent people from endangering themselves in the first place.
